Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP Polysomnography Program OR Minimum of 6 months of experience in sleep medicine or respiratory procedures
  • Current Louisiana licensure as a Registered Polysomnography Technologist (LSBME) OR Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) through BRPT OR Registered Sleep Technologist credential through the American Board of Sleep Medicine OR Current Louisiana Respiratory Therapist license (CRT or RRT) with commitment to obtain sleep disorder certification within 6 months of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Conduct standard and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies while adhering to department policies, clinical standards, and best practices.
  • Utilize specialized equipment and procedures, including: Electroencephalograms (EEG), Electrooculograms (EOG), Electromyograms (EMG), Respiratory effort monitoring, Airflow analysis, Oximetry, End-tidal monitoring, PAP device monitoring and therapy.
  • From the moment patients arrive, you'll help them feel comfortable and informed.
  • Verify patient identity and medical history
  • Clearly explain procedures and answer questions
  • Provide compassionate care to patients and families
  • Support patients from infancy through adulthood
  • Monitor studies in real time
  • Identify and resolve technical artifacts
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues quickly and effectively
  • Ensure accurate, reliable recordings for physician interpretation
  • Maintain, clean, and inspect equipment
  • Apply universal precautions and isolation protocols
  • Assist with patient movement and transfers safely
  • Collaborate with technical support and leadership when needed
  • Earn at least 10 sleep-related CEUs annually
  • Participate in education, training, in-services, and professional development opportunities
  • Stay current on emerging sleep technology and industry best practices
