About The Position

This position involves performing a wide variety of duties to assist professional mental health/social services staff in coordinating and providing services based on clinical need and in consultation with a supervisor. The role supports assigned youth and families in various community-based settings. The Skills Specialist is accountable for independent time management and collaborates with professional staff to provide services to youth involved in identified systems, meeting all County requirements. The role also involves facilitating rehabilitative and/or skill-building groups, providing collateral support to caregivers, and identifying temporary and sustainable resources within family and community environments. The position requires participation in various team and administrative meetings, providing and documenting eligible services, and writing clear progress notes. The Skills Specialist is expected to seek and address clinical feedback, arrange safe transportation for youth and families, and participate in utilization and accreditation processes. Collaboration with internal programs, departments, and staff is essential, as is maintaining positive relationships with consumers, customers, and community partners. The role also involves modeling and coaching positive attitudes and behaviors, functioning as a team leader, and supporting team members. The Skills Specialist is responsible for meeting all outcomes documented in the Employee Development Plan and coordinating with program staff to ensure documentation meets or surpasses applicable standards. Agency-specific duties include performing all duties in a manner consistent with the agency's principles and values, adhering to professional codes of ethics, agency policies, and regulatory requirements. The role requires modeling and communicating positive attitudes toward the agency's Mission, Vision, and Values, and utilizing and maintaining a calendar for effective time management. Participation in ongoing training is expected, along with performing other necessary duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma/GED
Skills Specialist I: At least 1 year of combined experience as a consumer or family member of a consumer who is in recovery from mental illness, and/or paid or volunteer work in a Mental Health/Social Service setting or in providing services to one or more mental health/social service consumers that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Health Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children’s Mental Health System of Care.
Skills Specialist II: At least 2 years direct care experience in a Mental Health/Social Service setting that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Health Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children’s Mental Health System of Care.
Skills Specialist III: At least 4 years or more direct care in a Mental Health/Social Service setting that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children’s Mental Health System of Care, or 2 years direct care in a Mental Health/Social Service setting + 2 years education in the Mental Health/Social Service field.

Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of duties to assist professional mental health/social services staff in coordinating and providing services based on clinical need and in consultation with supervisor to assigned youth, and families in the home, office, school, or other community-based settings.
Possesses specific cultural competence to work with and outreach to culturally diverse populations and communities.
Accountable for independent time management.
In collaboration with professional mental health/social services staff, provides services to youth involved in the identified systems meeting all County requirements as listed in program scope.
Supports clients by providing a variety of including Intensive Home Based Services (IHBS), Intensive Case Coordination, Case Management, Rehabilitation, Collateral, services to youth as identified in youth’s treatment plan.
Follows program specific Treatment Plan, and Functional Assessment/Behavior Support Plans as a tool for planning/ providing services as assigned.
Facilitates rehabilitative and/or skill building groups where indicated.
Provides collateral support to caregivers and significant support persons as identified in youth’s treatment plan.
Follows safety plans in coordination with youth’s child family team, maximizing the use of natural supports and community-based resources.
Identifies temporary and sustainable resources and services within family and community environments.
Participates in Child Family Team (CFT), multi-disciplinary team, hospital, crisis, psychiatric, court, school, and provider meetings as scheduled.
Provides and documents all eligible billable and non-billable services, including but not limited to group session, collateral, rehabilitation, In Home Based Services (IHBS), case management, and Intensive Care Coordination (ICC) within required timelines.
Writes clear, accurate and timely progress notes consistent with each contact/visit.
Seeks out and addresses clinical feedback and recommendations provided by supervisors, and other professional mental health staff.
Attends all staff meetings, consumer meetings, and consultation meetings as scheduled.
Able to provide or arrange for safe transportation for youth and families to services as needed.
Participates in utilization, accreditation, peer review process as assigned.
Works collaboratively with all internal programs, departments, and staff to provide support as needed.
Maintains positive relationships with consumers and customers.
Model and coach positive, constructive attitudes and behaviors in managing difficult situations in school, work, and living situations.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with agency and community partners.
Responsible for meeting all outcomes as documented in Employee Development Plan.
Function as a team leader and uphold the ideals of the program.
Support and coach beginner and intermediate level team members within the role.
Coordinates with program staff to ensure documentation reflects standards that meet or surpass applicable Agency, County, State and Federal standards.
Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the principles and values of agency, while adhering to applicable professional codes of ethics, the agency’s policies and procedures, contractor requirements, and regulatory requirements.
Model and communicate appropriate positive attitudes toward the agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Work collaboratively with all agency programs and staff to provide support as needed.
Utilize and maintain calendar with all work-related details in order to manage time effectively and share calendar information with coworkers.
Participate in on-going training to expand and develop professional skills.
Perform other duties as necessary for the agency, as assigned.
