About The Position

Assists journeyman-level pipefitters with laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment used in steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, production, and processing systems. The position works under immediate supervision, typically reports to a Foreman or other direct supervisor, and follows instructions to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Respiratory protection is common and may be required.

Able to lift and carry 50 pounds and push and pull with 70 ft-lb of force.

Responsibilities

Select pipe types and sizes, materials, and related equipment according to job specifications.
Inspect worksites for obstructions and plan installation sequences to avoid obstructions and conflicts with other workers' activities.
Cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand tools and machines.
Mount pipe hangers and brackets, and secure pipes to structures using brackets, clamps, hangers, and hand or power tools.
Assemble and install metal and nonmetal pipes and fittings using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
Install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.
Test piping systems for leaks by pressurizing pipes and observing gauges.
Weld pipe supports to structural steel members.
May observe production machines to detect malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repairs.
Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
May assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
Observe and comply with safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
