Skilled Maintainer (37.5 Hour)
About The Position
The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System is hiring a full-time Skilled Maintainer at Norwich Technical High School. The position is scheduled for 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The role performs skilled grounds-care and landscaping tasks, along with lower-level maintainer duties. Work may include cleaning grounds, service areas, and sidewalks; snow and ice removal; operating and maintaining grounds equipment; weed, disease, and pest control; and specialized landscaping such as flower garden landscaping and athletic field preparation and maintenance. The Skilled Maintainer class performs one or more skilled tasks requiring prior experience or training, in addition to lower-level duties. Depending on assignment, work may involve building and equipment maintenance, grounds care and specialized landscaping, or assisting higher-level employees in trade areas. Incumbents may be required to hold and maintain relevant licenses, permits, or certifications.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in one of the following areas: a skilled trade, landscape maintenance or vegetable gardening, or operation of motor trucks or large buses; the experience area should reflect the needs of the position.
- A vocational or technical school diploma demonstrating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may substitute for the general experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, materials, and procedures of the relevant trade or work area.
- Knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling.
- Manual and machine-operation skills relevant to the trade or work area.
- Interpersonal, oral communication, and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and use computer software.
- Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity to perform the duties.
- May be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
Nice To Haves
- Maintenance experience in a school or large building.
- Ground care or landscape maintenance experience on school grounds or at large facilities.
- Experience with specialized landscaping, including flower garden landscaping, athletic field preparation and maintenance, and other non-routine landscaping.
- Experience cleaning school grounds or large-facility service areas and sidewalks, including snow and ice removal.
- Experience with weed and pest management.
