About The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair work on District facilities, grounds, building facilities, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • Two years experience in general construction, maintenance and repair work
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Employment eligibility will include fingerprints, tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures governing workscope
  • Knowledge of Safety and Health Protection on the Job (OSHA Regulations)
  • Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of common tools, materials, equipment, and terminology used in the general maintenance trades
  • Ability to properly use and operate tools and equipment common to the maintenance trade
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing workscope
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines
  • Ability to maintain routine records
  • Ability to complete work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to observe all legal and District defensive driving practices

Responsibilities

  • Assist buildings and grounds personnel in the daily activities of the department and special projects.
  • Assist buildings and grounds trades in the repair or renovation of District buildings, facilities, and equipment.
  • Load and unload supplies; lift and move heavy objects; lift and carry stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, lumber, and other materials as directed.
  • Load and unload school and construction equipment such as scaffolding, portable stages, machinery, and furniture.
  • Drive a District vehicle to transport trash, dirt, building supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist in anchoring and securing computers, monitors, copiers, microwave ovens, refrigerators, other equipment, and machinery as required.
  • Assist in the repair of cafeteria tables, benches, service carts, and other related equipment.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Clean culverts, drains, and ditches and remove undergrowth.
  • Assist in swimming pool maintenance, as directed.
  • Change heating, ventilation, and air conditioner (HVAC) filters.
  • Work with all District employees, architecture and engineering employees, and outside contractors.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
