(1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry. Key Role: Provide support for ground maintenance and general labor work at research facility. Work as team member and/or independently on a variety of grounds keeping tasks. Tasks may include, but are not limited to lawn mowing, tree trimming, planting and/or removal of shrubs and trees, general cleanups. Provide support in the movement of materials and supplies, large equipment items, furniture and livestock. Work under the direction of Buildings & Grounds Manager. Duties include all manual labor involved in grounds maintenance. Fertilization and irrigation of plants and shrubs. Additional duties involve clearing roadways of debris and/or snow, minor road repairs and a variety of activities involving the movement of equipment and/or supplies. Operates equipment as assigned and directed. Routine tasks such as delivery of LN2tank/trailers and removal of trash. Make deliveries of office supplies, food items, furniture, large equipment items, animal feed and livestock. Operate forklifts, tractors, mowers, light and medium weight trucks.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or minimum of 2 years’ experience in ground maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate applicable equipment including large and small mowers, chain saw, weed whacker, pole saws, hedge trimming shears, pruning shears, etc. as well as operating forklifts, mowers, tractors, light and medium weight trucks.
  • Ability to become an active member of the PIADC First Brigade.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.
  • Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs. Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to carry out housekeeping duties with minimal direction, following prescribed methods & directives.
  • Assignments may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, a variety of storage buildings and constructions sites. Work within the containment laboratory requires decontamination showers.
  • You must be physically able to move freely in environments that are restricted in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily accessible. Ability to climb ladders, and lift to 50 lbs.
