About The Position

The Carpenter performs skilled journey-level rough and finish carpentry work in the alteration, renovation, repair, and construction of District facilities. This role involves maintaining and repairing all woodwork, floors, and roofs, performing milling work, and setting forms for concrete. The Carpenter designs and constructs various fixtures, equipment, and walls within District facilities, and is responsible for anchoring and securing equipment. The position requires operating various woodworking tools, maintaining a safe work environment, and collaborating with District employees and outside contractors.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • Two years of journey-level carpentry experience.
  • Valid California Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion (Eight years of fieldwork experience may be substituted for the California Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion at the discretion of the Director)
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Employment eligibility will include fingerprints, tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance
  • Knowledge of Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures governing workscope
  • Knowledge of Safety and Health Protection on the Job (OSHA Regulations)
  • Knowledge of Safe working methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of Technical aspects of field of specialty
  • Knowledge of Principles, methods, equipment, tools, and materials of skilled rough and finish carpentry work
  • Knowledge of Building and safety codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of Quality and adaptability of various woods and/or other material
  • Ability to Perform skilled rough and finish carpentry work
  • Ability to Understand and work from blueprints
  • Ability to Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing workscope
  • Ability to Communicate effectively in English orally and in writing
  • Ability to Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to Meet schedules and timelines
  • Ability to Maintain routine records
  • Ability to Complete work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to Observe all legal and District defensive driving practices

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all woodwork of buildings; fit doors, window, sashes, and screens; install partitions and ceiling tiles.
  • Repair all floors and roofs.
  • Perform all necessary milling work.
  • Set forms, mix and finish concrete.
  • Design and construct walls, shelves, and fixture work in District facilities.
  • Construct and repair all types of equipment and wooden fixtures.
  • Anchor and secure computers, monitors, copiers, microwave ovens, refrigerators, other equipment, and machinery as required.
  • Repair cafeteria tables, benches, service carts, and other related equipment.
  • Operate all woodwork equipment, powered and non-powered.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work area in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Maintain routine records as assigned.
  • Work with all District employees, architecture and engineering employees, and outside contractors.
  • Collaborate with other Districts to exchange information on best practices of the profession.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
