About The Position

Western Specialty Contractors is looking for self-motivated individuals to serve as a Skilled Laborer at their Atlanta branch. This role is part of the branch production team and is responsible for performing work within a particular work area according to generally accepted standards of the crafts. The company is the nation's largest specialty contractor, restoring and protecting building envelopes through expertise in facades, concrete, roofing, and waterproofing. Requirements

  • Experience in a trade or craft is preferred.
  • Sufficient reading, writing, and math skills to comprehend and explain company safety policies and material instructions.
  • Ability to use logical step-by-step procedures in working with different materials using a variety of skills.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy and judge straight lines, spaces, and proportions.
  • Ability to read drawings.
  • Identify existing and predictable hazards in work surroundings, including working conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous.
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds, and other objects and carry tools and equipment.
  • Good vision (natural or corrected).
  • Ability to work at heights and at extreme temperatures.
  • Wear company’s safety equipment.
  • Practical construction experience preferred.
  • Must have own “hand tools of the trade.”
  • May be required to work weekends, nights, and out of town.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work within a particular work area in accordance with generally accepted standards of the crafts.
  • Masons and Tuckpointers: Brick replacement, lintel replacement, mortar removal and replacement, and stone repair.
  • Waterproofers: Below grade and building envelope waterproofing, pedestrian and vehicular coatings.
  • Caulkers: Sealant removal and replacement around windows including glass glazing, window perimeters, control joints and expansion joints.
  • Concrete Journeymen: Concrete repair including small and large patches on horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces, epoxy and urethane injection, carbon fiber reinforcement, grout pocket patching, post tension repairs and concrete sealing.
