Skilled Cellar Technician
About The Position
Under general supervision, the Skilled Cellar Technician efficiently performs skilled crush and wine processing duties, operates general and complex winery equipment, trains less skilled employees, keeps accurate records and ensures work procedures are conducted in a safe and efficient manner. This role involves performing all technical duties defined under the General Technician level, operating complex winery equipment such as filtration and clarifying equipment, chillers and presses, and performing simple cellar tasks like lees and oak removal inside confined spaces (tanks). The technician will also assist general technicians, maintain a safe and organized work area, use downtime productively, support lean initiatives, and provide training to less experienced employees.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic math skills
- Strong ability to multitask
- A minimum of 2 years of winery experience
Responsibilities
- Diligent adherence to safety, GMP, and ISO procedures and policies.
- Proficient performance of all technical duties defined under the General Technician level.
- Operation of complex winery equipment including filtration, clarifying equipment, chillers, and presses.
- Clear and professional communication of business information.
- Efficient monitoring of multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Assistance to general technicians as necessary.
- Proactive maintenance of work area in a safe, professional, and organized manner.
- Productive use of downtime for assigned projects, clean-up, or assisting team members.
- Active participation in 5S initiatives to support site lean initiatives.
- Training less experienced employees on areas of expertise.
- Performing simple cellar tasks, such as lees and oak removal inside confined spaces (tanks).
- Assisting in harvest press areas or the barrel room as needed.
- Assisting other departments as needed and potential provisional reassignment.
- Operating high reach equipment while strictly adhering to safety practices.
