About The Position

Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) is seeking a Skill Development Teacher for grades 9 to 12. This is a 1.00 FTE probationary position with an expected start date of August 25th, 2026. LCI aims to provide a safe, supportive, and challenging learning environment with a diverse academic program, athletics, and fine arts. They partner with the University of Lethbridge for Dual Credit courses, serving over 1550 students. LCI staff focus on maximizing individual potential and preparing students for life after graduation by linking them with community and industry resources. The school division, Lethbridge School Division, is committed to inclusive schools and innovative culture, employing over 1,200 staff to serve over 12,000 students across 24 schools. Requirements

  • Strength in the areas of literacy & numeracy.
  • An understanding of UDL (Universal Design for Learning).
  • An awareness of executive functioning skills and their impact on learning.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Provide a police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Provide a satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Provide proof of photo identification.
  • Provide documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and previous experience in mentoring/supporting Educational Support Staff in working with students with exceptional needs is preferred.
  • Previous experience and passion for working with students with exceptional needs will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in an Inclusive Education classroom is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in grades 9 through 12.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of diverse learning contexts and the variables that influence student success, including cultural, social, and individual factors.
  • Apply evidence-based pedagogical approaches that reflect current best practices.
  • Utilize proficiency in curriculum planning, formative and summative assessment strategies, and differentiated instructional practices that meet diverse learning needs.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies that foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Integrate technology purposefully and effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning aligned with Alberta's Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).
  • Build and maintain respectful, professional relationships within the school community.
  • Participate in collaborative practice and teamwork with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Contribute actively to school culture, student activities, and extracurricular programs.
  • Develop effective partnerships within the school and broader community.
  • Mentor/support Educational Support Staff in working with students with exceptional needs.
