About The Position

The junior coach’s primary goals are to help young skiers develop strong fundamental skills, learn to be part of a team, and gain joy and passion for skiing in a fun, safe, and challenging team environment. Openings for junior coaches of all levels who will work with athletes ages 4-9 participating on Alpine Rangers, Mountain Rangers, Shooting Stars, or Mighty Mites teams. Ski team junior coaches support with the successful implementation of curriculum as developed and communicated by the Coach, Head Coach, Manager, and Director. Our mission is to provide the best development opportunities for personal and athletic achievement while instilling passion for snow sports and appreciation of our Olympic history, legacy and legendary mountains. Success is measured by the quality of the athlete and employee experience, athlete success through skill acquisition and performance in skill assessments, parent satisfaction, and athlete and employee retention. Applicants must be 14-17 years of age.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be 14-17 years of age.
  • Prior experience working and/or volunteering with youth
  • Extensive skiing experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency and willingness to use mobile devices and online applications for communication, scheduling, training updates, and program administration.
  • Punctual, reliable and displays proper appearance in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Understands and is knowledgeable of the job skills, duties, protocols, and responsibilities.
  • Shows initiative to perform high-quality work with efficiency, works individually to meet the performance objectives of the team, exhibits a willingness to be versatile and flexible in work duties and assignments.
  • Values athlete progress through the program.
  • Takes personal ownership for positive and helpful interactions with both internal and external guests, strives to meet the goals and objectives of the department’s guest service system.
  • Values ski team family retention.
  • Has a proactive approach towards safety of self and others, maintains awareness of order and cleanliness in the workplace and takes action when needed, adheres to and supports safety policies and procedures including Employee Ski and Ride Policy.
  • Employee must be capable of skiing or snowboarding in all types of terrain in varying and sometimes hazardous snow and weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods of time, up to 90% or more of a normal work shift.
  • Must be capable of frequently or constantly balancing, reaching, squatting, bending, kneeling, stooping, handling and twisting.
  • May require out of the ordinary skiing or snowboarding movements in order to assist children on the mountain.
  • Must be capable of occasionally carrying, lifting. pushing or pulling up to 75bs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • PSIA or IFSA Certification
  • Prior coaching or instructing experience
  • A Motor Vehicle Record review may be required as part of your job.

Responsibilities

  • Know and adhere to schedule, time and attendance expectation
  • Foster a fun, safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate team environment for all athletes
  • Help set-up quality training environments: transport and install necessary equipment for training, safety and security including closures, signage, training poles/panels, drills and other
  • Support the implementation of team training as directed by the Coach; assist in delivering a positive athlete experience and quality training environment
  • Support athlete development by assisting with the implementation of the long-term athlete development plan and team training objectives
  • Demonstrate adaptability in changing training environments and interpersonal situations
  • Help maintain quality and appearance of all Ski Team facilities and physical plant including Team Center, on-mountain training facilities, signage and program imaging and other
  • Stay current and adhere to company guidelines, policies and procedures including but not limited to: Employee Ski & Ride Policy, safety, behavior, appearance, travel, time and attendance and other
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with athletes, guests, and fellow employees; refer parent concerns and program decisions to senior coaching staff when appropriate
  • Collaborate effectively with coaches, staff, and other departments
  • Attend and positively contribute to required trainings and meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned and agreed to with Coach, Head Coach, Manager and/or Director
  • Meet, greet and interact with guests daily.
  • Be a role model for others
  • Support coaches and staff in delivering an exceptional athlete and guest experience
  • Contribute to a positive work environment for all staff
  • Support the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Team and company
  • Maintain awareness of team and company initiatives and support communication efforts as directed by coaching leadership
  • Participate in the performance development process, including goal setting and receiving feedback
  • Take ownership of professional development and personal growth through ongoing learning, educational opportunities, and the adoption of new communication and coaching tools
  • Remain current with required certifications and licenses, and stay informed of industry best practices and trends
  • Seek and incorporate feedback from Coach, Head Coach and supervisors to support professional growth and coaching effectiveness
