About The Position

This role involves coaching Ski Team athletes, focusing on developing their skiing abilities and fostering a love for the sport. The coach will be responsible for teaching a range of skill levels, managing on-snow incidents, and contributing to the overall operation of ski school and resort activities. The position requires strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to ski proficiently in various conditions and terrains.

Requirements

  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Ability to proficiently ski Advanced, Intermediate, and Beginner terrain, utilizing proper ski fundamentals in all conditions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, cross-train, multi-task, prioritize tasks, and follow directions from Supervisors, etc.
  • Ability to work with a partner coach, and maintain productive working relationships with fellow Ski Team coaches.
  • Ability to teach/coach Beginner to Advanced level skiers.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to work at least one weekend day for the duration of the Ski Team season.
  • Alpine skis (professionally tuned), bindings (calibrated by a certified professional ski technician), and boots (binding compatible/certified). Equipment must be appropriate for all conditions and manufacturer-certified (i.e. not outdated).
  • Must be able to work 20+ shifts minimum throughout the season
  • Must maintain a current SafeSport certification or complete SafeSport training by the assigned deadline (paid for by the employer)

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to work/coach both Saturday/Sunday for the duration of the Ski Team season.
  • Experience with ski racing, including coaching, competing, race crew, and/or administration.
  • Experience with Freeride skiing, including coaching, competing, and/or administration.
  • Familiarity with TJFS, IFSA and/or FIS Freeride events, governance, standards, etc.
  • Previous experience as a Ski School instructor, and/or Ski Team coach.
  • Familiarity with PSIA, USSS, and/or formal experience with technical skiing skills development, including the SkillsQuest training curriculum.
  • Active USSS and/or PSIA certification within the last 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in general operation of all ski school and/or resort activities.
  • Understand, observe, and teach all Ski Team safety, group handling, and training operations rules, requirements, processes, and protocols, including the Skier Responsibility Code and Park SMART (applicable to Terrain Park qualified coaches only).
  • Establish rapport with Ski Team athletes and families, including training day debriefs with athletes and their parents.
  • Develop camaraderie among Ski Team athletes in a fun coaching environment, and facilitate the development of lifelong skiers.
  • Communicate issues, needs, and questions effectively to fellow coaches, Supervisors/Director, and Ski Patrol.
  • Manage on-snow incidents utilizing proper protocols, including communicating with Ski Patrol and Ski Team management.
  • Follow the All Mountain Program ‘athlete development curriculum’ to develop athlete skiing ability.
  • Run prescribed drills by explaining, performing (demo), observing (movement analysis), and providing feedback to athletes on desired skill proficiency.
  • Read, understand, and apply training day Ski Team coach preparation e-mails and included materials/content.
  • Assist in the general operation of Ski Team/Ski School activities and special events, including races, competitions, end-of-season evaluations, fun races, etc.
  • Assist in Rosebuds, Ski School and/or other departments during holiday periods or as needed (i.e. shovel crew).
