About The Position

The Ski/Snowboard Instructor is responsible for creating a fun, safe, and exciting learning experience for guests by providing technical ski/snowboard coaching and knowledge, while accurately and positively representing Sundance. The role involves effectively representing the Sundance Snowsports' Brand, including Home Base and The Cycle of Learning, ensuring it stands for fun, simplicity with depth of performance, and a safe learning environment. Uphold Sundance's zero tolerance standard for sexual abuse and molestation by following protocols to protect students from inappropriate behavior by staff members, guests, and other students. The position has different levels of responsibility based on teaching ability and certification: Apprentice Level (teaching Level 5-6 students), Zone One (teaching Level 6 students, PSIA/AASI Level 1 certification recommended), Zone Two (teaching Level 8 students, PSIA/AASI Level 2 certification highly recommended, Level 1 required), and Zone Three (teaching Level 9 students, PSIA/AASI Level 2 or 3 certification required). Zone Two and Three instructors may also develop peer teaching skills and model the Sundance Brand.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified in PSIA/ASSI, or working toward certification.
  • Personal skiing or snowboarding skills of level 8 or better.
  • Understanding of skiing or snowboarding technique and the methods to teach them.
  • Possess a consistent track record of timeliness, a good work ethic, and safety awareness.
  • Operate 2-way radios for communication to other staff.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

  • PSIA/AASI certifications preferred.
  • PSIA/AASI Level 1 Certification highly recommended for Zone One.
  • PSIA/AASI Level 2 Certification highly recommended for Zone Two, Level 1 certification required.
  • PSIA/AASI Level 2 or 3 Certification required for Zone Three.

Responsibilities

  • Model and teach "Your Responsibility Code".
  • Attend all required training and show strong professional commitment by attending at least 75% of all available training when work schedule and teaching assignments allow.
  • Maintain a high level of professional communication with Snowsports' leadership, always responding to on-going changes, meeting points and responding to all verbal, written and email communications in a timely manner and as directed.
  • Maintain a professional level of communication with peers, leadership and guests, displaying an effective and positive manner of speech, seeking to make operations, teaching and other professional needs better.
  • Understand and model all snowsports' policies and procedures.
  • Help guests achieve their goals, by developing trust, creating lasting positive first impressions, building friendly and professional relationships, displaying salesmanship qualities and stimulating the desire in the guest to return.
  • Model an appropriate level of mastery in communication skills, giving effective feedback to students, effectively using progressions, terrain choices and proper speed levels to match student ability and snow conditions.
  • Provide the best demonstrations for the student's level.
  • Consistently demonstrate good knowledge to the appropriate ability levels, while seeking to expand this knowledge, including: what to teach, how to teach, why to teach it, and the ability to safely analyze skills, equipment and the conditioning of each student.
  • Display a personal skiing/snowboarding capability beyond the level expected of each student, thereby creating a confidence and comfort in the personal ability of the instructor.
  • Enthusiastically teach children at the apprentice level requirements.
  • Continue to work toward increased professional skills, PSIA/AASI certification, etc.
  • Display a personal love of Snowsports by continuously striving to learn more and improve personal performance.
