About The Position

Plans, directs, and coordinates the Ski Patrol department, accident investigations, snow and safety operations and control risks and losses by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree (B.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience. and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in managing or supervising employees.
  • Previous Ski Patrol experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer Internet software, Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office Suite Word Processing software.
  • Must be an expert skier.
  • EMT or OEC certification or must obtain within first 6 months of employment.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Working knowledge of Skier Safety Act and Accident Investigation.
  • Must be able to function effectively at elevations of 10,000 feet or higher.
  • Must be able to function effectively in inclement weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the overall operations and scheduling of Ski Patrol and Dispatch.
  • Create and monitor the Ski Patrol budget and labor reporting.
  • Develop, direct and oversee all aspects of Ski Patrol training.
  • Responsible party registered with the State of Colorado and the Federal Government (ATF) in the matter of explosives handling and storage.
  • Foster a positive working culture with ski patrol and all other departments.
  • Work closely with all administrative and operational departments as it relates to day to day operation of ski area.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of Accident Investigations and assist General Counsel by providing information regarding claims against the organization.
  • Have complete working knowledge of the Ski Safety Act and its application to our ski mountain.
  • Work closely with all departments and become an active resource for guest and employee safety issues.
  • Maintain Ski Patrol safety manuals and safety procedures.
  • Provide and organize safety trainings for Ski Patrol Department.
  • Assist in enforcing safety policies and reinforce safe behavior.
  • Assist Patrol with maintaining current State and Federal permits and files for the snow safety program.
  • Meet weekly with Risk Management to communicate employee and guest safety issues.
  • Provides a guest experience that exceeds the guest’s expectations.
  • Supports Telluride Ski & Golf sustainability initiatives.
  • Adheres to Telluride Ski & Golf policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and adheres to Skier Responsibility Code and Colorado Skier Safety Act.
