About The Position

The Ski & Bike Patrol Manager works closely with the Patrol Director to lead and execute all patrol functions. Primary responsibilities include an emphasis on safety, incident investigations, training, and implementing safety programs, supervising patrollers, scheduling/planning, overseeing day-to-day operations, guest service, and interdepartmental relations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • OEC Instructor certification required.
  • National EMT (or higher) or state of Colorado certification required.
  • Active CPR certification required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years prior ski patrol experience required.
  • Leadership and team-building skills, with positive, solutions-oriented leadership practices are required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license and be insurable under the company’s auto insurance.
  • Expert skiing/riding ability required.
  • Mountaineering skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
  • Comfortable working with children and families.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. individually and lift/carry loaded toboggans, with assistance.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in extreme and varying terrain, inclement weather, cold temperatures and seasonal conditions at 8000 feet elevation.
  • Ability to stand or move for extended periods of time.
  • Possesses strong communication skills (both verbal and written) in the English language.
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly to hear requests for assistance and to communicate using radios and telephones.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays is required.

Nice To Haves

  • College diploma or coursework is preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role is strongly preferred.
  • Industrial climbing experience preferred.
  • Financial management skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads initiatives to improve safety within patrol and the resort as a whole, with the mission to reduce and/or eliminate employee and guest injuries.
  • Enforces the Skier Safety Act.
  • Provides medical assistance and evacuation, search and rescue support, and guest safety.
  • Conducts and documents incident investigations and oversees the investigation process. Preserves facts, forms, and records, and obtains witness statements, collects photographs and creates diagrams as part of the investigation record. Develops and leads a specialized team of incident investigators.
  • Leads the Slope Safety program, using best practices in regard to marking and padding.
  • Trains patrollers on snow safety, rope rescue, lift evacuation, and other departmental safety protocols. Facilitates practice drills.
  • Creates and implements other safety programs/protocols.
  • Creates a positive and collaborative team-based work environment, which is committed to providing a positive and memorable experience for each and every employee and guest.
  • Supervises patrol members in their daily and seasonal duties.
  • Manages performance of patrollers and conducts performance reviews.
  • Coaches and develops the patrol team.
  • Schedules patrollers in an effective manner, while effectively managing labor costs.
  • Reviews/approves timesheets and time off requests.
  • Oversees medical first aid.
  • Trains patrol members on company policies, procedures, and other patrol protocols.
  • Coordinates placement of patrol volunteers and candidate/apprenticeship programs.
  • In partnership with the Patrol Director, develop and facilitate a mentorship program.
  • Ensures compliance, accountability, and models the highest possible work behaviors and standards.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the Mountain Operations team and other departments and managers on a daily basis, striving for operational excellence.
  • Aligns patrol operations with company goals, objectives, and values.
  • Supports budget planning and tracks financials against the budget.
  • Attends cross-departmental meetings, representing patrol operations.
  • Develop familiarity with all the terrain and trails at Granby Ranch.
  • Submits reports to insurance carriers.
  • Oversees preventative maintenance inspections of patrol equipment.
  • Functions as an ambassador of Granby Ranch; modeling and sharing company values with all guests and employees. Continually strives to exceed guests’ expectations.
  • Supports special events as needed, which may require performing duties outside the role of Patrol Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
