About The Position

The City Center Rink is seeking a seasonal Skate Sharpener to maintain the Parks Department rental-skate inventory and provide sharpening service for customer skates. The Skate Sharpener works under the direction of the Assistant Manager/Manager on Duty, Programming Supervisors, and Director of Athletic and Event Facilities. The Rink is open on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.

Requirements

Experience operating and maintaining BladeMaster or comparable skate-sharpening equipment.
Ability to maintain accurate records and use required software after training.
Evening, weekend, school-vacation, and holiday availability is required.
Must be available during Providence school vacation periods: December 21, 2026-January 1, 2027 and February 15-19, 2027.

Nice To Haves

At least one year of skate-sharpening experience is preferred
public-facility or retail-service experience is strongly preferred
Customer-service experience and basic ice-skating ability are preferred.

Responsibilities

Attend all required training and follow established sharpening, equipment-maintenance, safety, and recordkeeping procedures.
Maintain and sharpen an inventory of more than 500 public rental skates at required service intervals.
Sharpen customer skates accurately and provide professional customer service regarding service timing and basic blade condition.
Operate, clean, adjust, and maintain BladeMaster sharpening equipment and immediately report equipment concerns.
Maintain complete digital sharpening logs using the Rink software platform and other required records.
Inspect skates for damaged blades, loose hardware, cracked boots, or other unsafe conditions and remove unsafe equipment from service.
Train or coach designated staff on recognizing damaged or unsafe skates and on approved support tasks.
Assist with skate rentals and returns, customer-skate organization, cleaning and sanitizing, and rental-room operations when needed.
Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and safe sharpening room and work area.
Assist with facility opening and closing, bumper car setup, on-ice monitoring, and other Rink operations when assigned.
Complete other duties related to skate maintenance and Rink operations as assigned.
