About The Position
The Skate Guard at Morgan Park Sports Center is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and positive on-ice environment for all participants. This role emphasizes public safety, strong awareness, and proactive supervision during open skate sessions. It is suitable for individuals with a hockey/skating background who are dependable, attentive, and enjoy a team-oriented rink environment.
Requirements
- CPR certified
- Strong skating ability (hockey skating preferred)
- Ability to stay alert, make quick decisions, and handle situations calmly
- Strong communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience as a skate guard, coach, or hockey player
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience assisting with events, parties, or group activities
Responsibilities
- Monitor all on-ice activity to ensure a safe environment for players and skaters
- Enforce rink rules and always promote safe behavior
- Respond quickly and appropriately to incidents, injuries, or unsafe situations
- Maintain awareness of all participants and anticipate potential safety concerns
- Help set up and break down equipment (dividers, cones, music, etc.)
- Contribute to special events, private rentals when needed
- Assist with building operations during events, including setup, organization, and general support
- Complete other duties as assigned
