About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area. This position will perform maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain grounds and recreational programs, operating heavy equipment, maintain hunter check stations, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow and at times serve as a lead worker. Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area is one of Illinois' largest public access areas, it is a mosaic of mature forest land, agricultural land, grassland and rare hill prairie that is home to a rich assortment of wildlife. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes.
  • Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machineryand implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
  • Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work and routine tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of outdoor recreational programs for Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, tree spades, 80hp farm machinery for site projects and release of game for put/take or field trial events.
  • Mows grass, trims shrubs/trees, hauls trash, plows snow.
  • On a seasonal basis serves as lead worker for seasonal workers, volunteers, prison crews engaged in routine site maintenance and operational activities.
  • Inspects site areas for public health and safety hazards.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
