About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at the Stephen A Forbes State Recreation Area. This position will perform maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain grounds and recreational programs, operating heavy equipment and vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001 or more pounds with Air Brakes, maintain hunter check stations, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow and at times provide guidance and training to seasonal staff. The Stephen A. Forbes State Recreation Area, located 15 miles northeast of Salem in Marion County, was originally only 20 acres with a two-acre pond being the only water available. Since that time in 1959, additions have been made which bring the total current park area to 3,103 acres. It is the perfect place for picnicking, swimming, boating and fishing. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Requires valid Class A Illinois Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes.
  • Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
  • Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
  • Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience in following written and oral instructions.
  • Two (2) years of experience in informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains and makes improvements to site grounds, trails, waterways, spillways, beaches, marina, wildlife habitat plots, day use areas, field trial areas, equestrian and main campgrounds.
  • Participates in the operations of the sites.
  • Assists with the safety and security of the sites.
  • On a seasonal basis, provides training and guidance to seasonal, volunteer, and contractual employees to familiarize them with facilities, programs, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
