About The Position

This position is part of Nasittuq’s Inuit Training and Development Program (ITDP), a program reserved for beneficiaries of the Nunavut, Nunatsiavut or Inuvialuit land claim groups, in line with our commitments under the North Warning System contract. The ITDP is a structured program that combines on-the-job training with formal education and certification, as required for the role, designed to build skills and prepare incumbents for permanent employment opportunities. The duties below represent the scope of responsibilities for the permanent Site Supervisor role that the incumbent will be trained to perform within the time period. ABOUT US: Nasittuq Corporation (from the Inuktitut word meaning “looking out from the highest point”) operates and maintains the North Warning System (NWS), a critical joint Canada-US radar network with 47 sites across Northern Canada. Reporting to the LSS/Zone Manager and mentored by the Site Supervisor, the Site Supervisor Trainee will receive training in the full scope of day-to-day site operations at a Long-Range Radar (LRR) site. The role ensures safe and efficient operations while maintaining strict compliance will all safety and security protocols.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a trade, technical, operations, business or related field
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • Beneficiary status under the Nunavut, Nunatsiavut or Inuvialuit land claim groups (required)
  • Previous trade or technical experience, ideally in northern/remote environments
  • Strong organizational, communications, computer, problem solving skills
  • Adaptability and ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-culturally
  • Strong communication, documentation and decision-making skills with the judgment to address issues unique to the remote and logistically complex sites
  • Willingness to maintain positive standing at all times in the training program
  • Strong team building and mentoring skills
  • Initiative, autonomy and ability to balance competing priorities
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a remote fly-in fly-out environment

Nice To Haves

  • Possession Acquisition License (PAL) (asset)
  • Previous experience with the NWS contract (asset)
  • Ability to speak Inuktitut (asset)

Responsibilities

  • Supervision/oversight of the day-to-day operations consisting of both trades and non-trades positions
  • The safety of all personal on-site including visitors and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with all Nasittuq policies
  • Maintaining a safe work environment
  • The judicious allocations of site resources to support overall Nasittuq priorities of performing site maintenance tasks as well as responding to any corrective maintenance
  • Maintaining site cleanliness and ensuring the site is returned to normal LSS operations in a fully satisfactory state at the end of the period of your activity
