About The Position

Continental Heavy Civil Corp (CHC) delivers Heavy Civil, Marine, Dredging, and Bridge construction services to federal, state, and local agencies across the southeastern United States. Our projects demand a high standard of safety, and our HS&E team is central to how we earn and keep that reputation. CHC seeks a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) / Senior Safety Coordinator to serve as the primary safety presence on assigned construction and marine project sites. Reporting to the Director of HS&E & Risk Management, the SSHO implements CHC safety programs, enforces compliance, conducts daily safety activities, and serves as the on-site liaison for USACE requirements. This is a hands-on, field-based role. Availability beyond standard hours — including evenings, weekends, and on-call incident response — is a core requirement of this position.

Requirements

  • 3+ years hands-on safety experience in heavy civil, marine, or construction environments
  • USACE EM 385-1-1 project experience strongly preferred; prior SSHO experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent certification/experience considered
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required; must pass pre-employment drug screening and E-Verify
  • Ability to obtain U.S. Government security clearance (project-specific)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Certification
  • EM 385-1-1 40-Hour Certification
  • First Aid / CPR / AED & Bloodborne Pathogens Certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily on-site safety oversight for construction and marine operations
  • Implement CHC’s HSEMS, Accident Prevention Plan (APP), and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and document attendance
  • Perform site inspections, identify hazards, and drive corrective action
  • Enforce OSHA standards and USACE EM 385-1-1 requirements
  • Accompany USACE safety and insurance personnel during site visits
  • Respond immediately to all incidents, near misses, and injuries
  • Conduct root cause investigations and complete required incident reports within established timelines
  • Coordinate post-incident drug and alcohol testing per CHC protocol
  • Respond on-site outside normal hours when required — timely response is a condition of employment
  • Deliver new hire orientations and required safety training
  • Maintain daily safety records, inspection logs, and training documentation in SharePoint
  • Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports for the Director HS&E
