About The Position

Armitage Architecture Inc. (Armitage) provides multidiscipline engineering, technical, management, and professional services to federal, commercial, and private sectors. Our mission is to provide our clients professional services utilizing innovative technologies and proven management systems. We have an opening for a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for one of our large Federal clients. This position is located at the project site. The SSHO is responsible for the on-site safety and health management as outlined in the project specifications.

Requirements

  • Meet requirements of EM385
  • 30-Hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Class
  • Current First Aid and CPR Training/AED
  • Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction or managing general or industry construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls)
  • Maintained experience through having taken 24 hours of documented formal or on-line safety and health related coursework in the past three years. The training must be applicable to the work being performed on the contract
  • SSHO shall be able to demonstrate training in the following areas: personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance; hazard communication; excavation; scaffolding; fall protection; confined space; and health hazard recognition.
  • Ability to travel required (Domestic)
  • Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while working in production areas including but not limited to the use of safety glasses, steel-toed/metatarsal guarded shoes, earplugs, hard hats, protective clothing
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel
  • Applicants may be required to have REAL ID ACT compliant documentation at the time of hire to prohibit them from gaining access to military installations.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship will be required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the site specific safety plan/Accident Prevention Plan (APP)
  • Prepare Activity Hazard Analysis for each definable feature of work
  • Conduct safety indoctrination for all site workers and visitors
  • Ensure Company employees and subcontractor personnel are complying with the APP
  • Ensure required training and competent persons are available for each work activity
  • Ensure proper PPE is in use
  • Perform daily site safety inspections and document findings
  • Coordinate with Corps of Engineers personnel related to safety issues
  • Perform site accident investigations, complete accident reporting
  • Participate in Preparatory and initial QC meetings related to safety review
  • Participate in Tool Box safety meetings, ensure subcontractors are conducting safety meetings
  • Provide documentation as required
  • Maintain safety deficiency log and track deficiency
