About The Position

The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for the development and/or review of the Emergency Action Plan, activity hazard analysis, amendments to the Emergency Action Plan, on site safety education, toolbox safety meetings, all around safety compliance of the project, and a proactive innovative attitude towards solving difficult site-specific safety issues. The SSHO is responsible for managing, implementing, and enforcing the project Accident Prevention Plan. The SSHO shall provide full-time on-site safety and occupational health surveillance, inspections, training, and safety enforcement. This position will be under the direct supervision of the HSE Manager

Requirements

  • OSHA 30 Construction
  • Safety courses and certificates for previous 5 years
  • At least 5 years of safety experience
  • Approval with the USACE
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision
  • Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
  • Must be reliable and motivated.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven

Responsibilities

  • Provide site compliance through daily site inspections, daily safety reports and JHA’s
  • Knowledge of the Project Accident Prevention Plan
  • Provide onsite safety education to crew members
  • Coordination of safety issues with the Quality Control Manager and Site Superintendent
  • Provide management and oversight of site-specific safety activities. Examples – Changing of cutter heads, lockout/tag out activities, etc.
  • Prioritization of daily tasks to maintain safety compliance and project schedule
  • Demonstrate in depth knowledge of EM-385-1.1, OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926
  • Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports
  • Ensure sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements
  • Maintain the First Aid Logs
  • Maintain applicable safety reference materials on the job site
  • Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution
  • Maintain current SDS (MSDS) list of hazardous chemicals on site
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
