About The Position

The GE Site EHS Manager will be the GE Environment, Health & Safety representative on GE Hydro Power Plant during the defined period of the project. You will be responsible to support the GE Site Manager, Supervisors, Subcontractors and Partner on EHS matters, coordinate EHS activities and ensure that GE policies and procedures are implemented during the execution of the project. You will report to the GE Site Manager/U.S. HSE leader and will keep close contact with the Project Team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience or certifications in EHS
  • Minimum of 5 years EHS experience, with exposure to several EHS areas in Construction Projects environment
  • Knowledge of Energy business mandatory (Hydro business appreciated)
  • EHS Local certification mandatory
  • Ability to travel to assigned Site
  • Fluent in English, additional languages a plus.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills
  • Strong site EHS experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues with competing priorities
  • High energy, self-starter
  • Practical experience in risk elimination and project management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven functional computer knowledge in utilizing Microsoft Windows and Office applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint)

Responsibilities

  • Act as support liaison for assigned site in helping comply with GE EHS programs & requirements.
  • Conduct regular site EHS inspections with rigor and consistency, identifying deficiencies and ways of improvements.
  • Be a solution maker for assigned site.
  • Conduct Site EHS visits to check site EHS conditions and coach the site teams as needed in site EHS Plan implementation and problem solving.
  • Close follow-up of the leading KPI providing his/her on-site experience.
  • Deliver EHS training to assigned sites population as required.
  • Identify and share best practices across the region.
  • Support site team to leverage best practice from others.
  • Contribute in investigations and analysis of all accidents or hazardous situations.
  • Identify trends and causes, as well as follow up on corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure all internal and external EHS reporting is completed on time and with accuracy.
  • Review the Project EHS Plan and site procedures at mobilization and develop updates when needed.
  • Coordinate the GE site EHS programs and assist the GE Site Manager, Supervisors and Subcontractors in implementing it.
  • Ensure the site has identified all applicable legislation or standards, and ensure he/she understands the requirements, to achieve compliance.
  • Advise the management of GE/Subcontractor of unsafe acts/conditions observed on the project site for prompt corrective action to eliminate the unsafe act/condition.
  • Monitor the Partner EHS performance and execution and support where required for improvements or as needed.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are communicated to anyone who is involved or could be affected by the task, before the task begins.
  • Take action to stop unsafe acts or conditions, before they result in an injury or incident.
  • Conduct regular documented EHS Inspections.
  • Conduct EHS inductions and assist the Contractor/Subcontractor’s EHS representative with conducting EHS inductions for all construction personnel and visitors reporting to the project site.
  • Drive “Toolbox” safety talks, Safety Meetings, etc. For GE employees.
  • Ensure Subcontractors hold weekly EHS meetings and “Toolbox” safety talks.
  • Liaise with Partners, Subcontractors, insurance representatives, local medical services, local fire and police departments, local regulatory agencies, and Customer/Client on EHS related matters.
  • Ensure Emergency drills are carried out at least quarterly; these may be focused on specific events, rather than a full site evacuation each quarter.
  • Manage the retention of the EHS required documentation in the Site EHS files and in Gensuite.
  • Oversee the management of PPE for GE staff and visitors on site.
  • Identify best management practices that may be of use to other sites, and communicate these to the Project EHS Manager.
