About The Position

Toyota Financial Services is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer focused on backup infrastructure for its Technology Operations Center. The role applies software engineering principles to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of enterprise backup infrastructure. It maintains, modernizes, and automates backup ecosystems so daily backups and restores meet defined Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise backup infrastructure in production, including AWS Backups, NetBackup, Cohesity, and native database backup solutions.
• 5+ years of experience ensuring reliability, availability, and operational health of daily backups and restores.
• 4+ years of experience with backup, restore, and recovery testing, including validation of RPO and RTO targets.
• 3+ years of experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, CloudWatch, or equivalent platforms to configure alerting and health checks.
• 3+ years of scripting proficiency in one or more of Bash, Python, or PowerShell for automation and operational efficiency.
• 3+ years of experience building automation for backup, restore, reporting, or operational workflows.
• 4+ years of troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience for backup failures, restore issues, and operational gaps.
• 3+ years of experience with SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, observability, toil reduction, and incident response.
• 3+ years of experience generating operational, compliance, and audit reports, with the ability to automate report creation and delivery.
• 2+ years of working knowledge of database backup and restore operations for enterprise platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar systems.
• 2+ years of experience with automation or configuration management frameworks such as Ansible or similar tooling.
• 2+ years of experience documenting runbooks, standards, procedures, and recovery processes for operational use.

Nice To Haves

• Production experience with AWS, Linux, and Windows environments.
• Familiarity with database backup and restore operations for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to incident management, problem management, and reliability engineering practices.
• Certifications in AWS, backup technologies, or observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain enterprise backup infrastructure, including AWS Backups, NetBackup, Cohesity, and native database backup solutions.
• Own the reliability and performance of daily backups and restores.
• Build and maintain automation to improve backup and restore workflows, efficiency, and developer experience.
• Design and implement observability and alerting, including in tools such as Dynatrace, to proactively detect backup issues and failures.
• Generate automated reports for auditing, compliance, and operational visibility.
• Troubleshoot production issues related to backup failures and implement durable fixes.
• Participate in capacity planning, restore testing, disaster recovery, and business continuity exercises.
• Define and manage SLIs, SLOs, health checks, and automated remediation processes for backup services.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, engineering, and operations teams on service reliability and operational readiness.
• Support incident response, postmortems, and follow-up actions to reduce recurring issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations and major incident restoration as needed.
