About The Position

DuPont is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer for its Healthcare Industries Materials Site (HIMS) in Hemlock, Michigan. The plant produces silicone-based materials used in the healthcare industry. The position is part of the Manufacturing Technology organization, reports to the Manufacturing Technology Manager, and receives additional training and guidance from the HIMS maintenance leader. It collaborates with operations and maintenance teams and may involve limited travel to other DuPont sites or external parties such as equipment suppliers, depending on project responsibilities. The Reliability Engineer defines and implements the site's Reliability Strategy and provides technical expertise on reliability, equipment, and maintenance engineering, assessment, and monitoring for process equipment. The role evaluates existing equipment, recommends improvements to equipment philosophies and strategies, and supports asset productivity. It leads equipment reliability matters, using analysis to enhance value and providing some first-response, day-to-day troubleshooting of failed equipment. The role also contributes to improvement and capital projects, including equipment design, selection, implementation, and startup, working with other engineering disciplines and operations. It supports process safety, equipment performance, maintenance and reliability improvement, and safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering; advanced degree holders are encouraged to apply.
  • At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing operations; higher experience levels are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a cross-functional setting with operators, mechanics, engineers, management, other leaders, and consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve equipment and production issues through teamwork and data-driven analysis.
  • Experience with capital and/or improvement projects as a manufacturing representative.
  • Proven skills with management-of-change work practices in a manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of preventive-predictive maintenance programs, such as lubrication, vibration, and thermography.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and objectives and adapt to additional roles to meet site and business needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and represent DuPont externally, including with suppliers when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with reliability theory and tools, root cause failure analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis.
  • Experience interpreting and applying industry and corporate standards.
  • Experience with new equipment startups.
  • Experience executing capital projects following the DuPont Project Process.
  • Experience with SAP maintenance planning, scheduling, and master data.
  • Experience with machine-safety standards and implementation.
  • Experience with plant utilities such as boilers, cooling towers, chillers, water treatment, nitrogen, compressed air, and electrical power supply.
  • Experience with cleanroom operations, including air handling systems.
  • Experience in batch manufacturing processes, including silicone mixing and extrusion.
  • Six Sigma or similar continuous-improvement and statistical-analysis experience.
  • Experience in Process Safety Management.
  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification; Reliability Engineers are encouraged to obtain it.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate personal leadership and accountability and serve as a role model for core values.
  • Provide reliability and equipment technical support for HIMS plant operations and utilities; lead root cause and failure analyses for equipment and reliability upsets.
  • Work with the team to correct defects and prevent recurrence; participate in production turnaround and shutdown teams, contributing to equipment inspection and repair procedures.
  • Conduct plant-site improvement audits, identify gaps in work practices, and help define the business value of improvements.
  • Support capital replacement and improvement projects by setting equipment criteria and specifications and providing technical support for fabrication, installation, and startup of new equipment.
  • Lead small site projects or work with other engineers to implement projects; implement maintenance and reliability procedures for new equipment.
  • Develop and implement equipment asset plans using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and other reliability techniques.
  • Support continuous improvement by analyzing equipment trends and historical data, recommending and justifying improvements to reduce life-cycle cost, assessing how process variation and equipment operation affect reliability, and developing or improving standard operating procedures.
  • Lead or technically review manufacturing process changes and apply management of change and change-of-design processes.
  • Participate in maintenance and reliability networks and share best practices and key learnings.
  • Support process safety by leading and participating in Pre Start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR) and participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
  • Promote machine safety, maintenance safety, and safe work practices.
  • Lead and implement site S1M machine-safety guarding initiatives, including support for Machine Risk Assessments (MRAs).
  • Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to analyze failures, determine root causes, and evaluate equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance mechanics.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
