Site & Operations Manager (Ohio - Cleveland)

PHNX MaterialsCleveland, OH
Onsite

About The Position

PHNX Materials turns coal ash from landfills into useful products: a cement substitute for concrete and a sulfate-based fertilizer. Our technology helps power producers solve a real waste problem, employs jobs in coal communities, and gives concrete and ag customers a cheaper, cleaner option. PHNX is backed by leading investors, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the State of Ohio. We are now standing up our first demonstration facility in the Cleveland area. This is a hands-on, on-site job with two phases: Build: You take the engineering package and turn it into steel in the ground. You manage the trades, the equipment vendors, the schedule, and the site. Operate: Once the facility is commissioned, you run it. You hire the operating crew, keep the line moving, and make demonstration runs happen on time. You report to Robert, Director of Plant Development. You are the senior PHNX presence on the ground in Ohio from day one.

Requirements

  • 10+ years as a superintendent, site manager, or plant manager. You have personally taken at least one ground-up project from a dirt pad to operating.
  • Comfortable reading and red-lining mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings.
  • Track record managing multiple subs and vendors at once without losing schedule.
  • Hands-on heavy equipment background. You can operate when needed.
  • Strong, visible safety leadership. OSHA 30 minimum.
  • Procore or equivalent. Daily logs and change orders are second nature.
  • On site every working day in the Cleveland area. This is not a commute role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with process plants, cement, aggregates, mining, or power generation.
  • Familiarity with conveyors, baghouses, scrubbers, kilns, or material handling systems.
  • Experience hiring and standing up an operating crew from scratch.

Responsibilities

  • Review mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings. Catch problems before they get built.
  • Coordinate daily across the EPC, trade contractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Run the build schedule. Decide what gets installed today and where to push to recover lost time.
  • Walk the site every day. Catch quality, rework, and safety issues before they become problems.
  • Manage deliveries, lay-down, rigging, and site logistics.
  • Lead commissioning, punch lists, inspections, and closeout.
  • Own day-to-day operations. Set shift schedules, run the daily standup, keep the line moving.
  • Hire, train, and lead the operating crew.
  • Execute customer demonstrations and pilot runs on schedule.
  • Run a real preventive maintenance program. Triage and fix what breaks.
  • Track production, downtime, and yield. Report up weekly.
  • Set the safety culture. Toolbox talks, JSAs, weekly audits. Everyone goes home the way they came in.
  • Keep the site in compliance with OSHA, Ohio EPA, and applicable permits.
  • Manage relationships with the host site, local inspectors, and the local community.
  • Daily logs, photos, RFIs, and as-builts go in Procore.
