About The Position

The Site Monitor facilitates site activities and also acts as a Tutor/Student Advocate who provides academic tutoring, mentoring, and case-management support to middle and high school students served by the Medgar Evers College Liberty Partnerships Program. This role strengthens students’ academic skills, promotes school engagement, connects families to resources, and advocates for students’ social-emotional and educational needs to improve retention, graduation rates, and college/career readiness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in creating a safe environment for youth
  • Proficiency in computer and camera access: Ability to work on-site and from remote locations, including access to a computer or laptop with camera.
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to build professional relationships with work site supervisors and program participants.
  • Attention to detail: Ability to document all site visits, participant check-ins, and assessments accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group tutoring in core subjects (English/language arts, math, science, social studies) using differentiated strategies aligned to student needs and school curricula.
  • Create individualized learning plans and track academic progress; document interventions and outcomes.
  • Conduct regular student check-ins to assess academic performance, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional well-being.
  • Serve as student advocate: coordinate with schools, teachers, guidance counselors, and families to remove barriers (attendance, discipline, academic supports).
  • Facilitate workshops and small-group sessions on study skills, time management, test prep, college readiness, and career exploration.
  • Support program recruitment, enrollment, retention, and attendance at program events (after-school sessions, Saturday academies, field trips, college visits).
  • Maintain accurate case notes, attendance records, and required program documentation in a timely manner; submit reports as requested.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, home visits, and family engagement activities.
  • Refer students and families to community resources (counseling, health services, social services) and follow up to ensure connection.
  • Uphold confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and positive youth development principles.
