About The Position

The Site Monitor is part of a team that operates and monitors a transitional housing program at CARE Campus in Oakland. The program focuses on unhoused re-entry populations who are working to develop self-sufficiency. The Site Monitor will be responsible for assisting members with their requests, serving as the first staff responder in the event of an emergency, and ensuring that the quality and integrity of the program are maintained diligently during core hours. This position reports directly to the Site Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service is preferred.
  • Some knowledge of computer skills: Microsoft Office, Google Suite, databases, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.
  • Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision; excellent communication, community relations, networking, and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, women, and children, and without discrimination towards people of diverse cultures, races/ethnicities, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental challenges/disabilities, and sexual orientations.
  • Must be enthusiastic, client-centered, creative, dedicated, organized, and motivated to work with low-income people with multiple barriers and diverse ethnic/social backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage time, and able to work well as part of a team with other staff members and other agencies' staff.
  • Able to travel to different office locations on an as-needed basis.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; must have a flexible schedule on some evenings and weekends.
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License, clean DMV record, and proof of current auto insurance and registration; must pass a background check.
  • Regularly required to sit and work on the computer; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear; and move objects up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for participants, providing information, addressing concerns, and assisting with CARE Campus services and community resources.
  • Observe participant activities and behavior, provide appropriate behavioral redirection when necessary, and promptly report safety, behavioral, or operational concerns.
  • Monitor and support campus security operations, including main gate access, visitor policies, participant curfews, and prevention of unauthorized individuals or vehicles from entering the property.
  • Assist and provide coverage for ABC Security as needed, including gate protocol, security breaks, vehicle and pedestrian registration, and maintaining accurate security tracking logs.
  • Conduct routine campus patrols and inspections of buildings, equipment, access points, walkways, and common areas; identify and address safety, cleanliness, and maintenance concerns.
  • Monitor surveillance systems as needed in coordination with the Site Supervisor and respond appropriately to observed incidents or security concerns.
  • Complete Daily Activity Reports (DARs), incident reports, mandated reports, and other required documentation accurately and in real time; provide clear communication during shift handoffs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of participant, program, and organizational information and comply with all CARE Campus policies, mandated reporting requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Assist with participant move-ins and move-outs, wellness checks, inspections, flyer distribution, and other routine campus operations.
  • Provide front office and administrative support, including participant identification verification, mail control, receiving and distributing items, food service support, and maintaining an organized office environment.
  • Manage lost-and-found items, including proper receiving, storage, documentation, and disposal or return in accordance with CARE Campus procedures.
  • Follow procedures for lost, malfunctioning, or emergency keys and ensure proper authorization and documentation for key access.
  • Perform minor maintenance and safety tasks as needed, such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, using plungers, and addressing basic facility concerns.
  • Support and coordinate on-site vendors, contractors, inspections, repairs, pest control, fire inspections, construction activities, and other special projects.
  • Assist with campus events, emergencies, emergency repairs, and other operational needs as directed by the Site Supervisor or management.
