About The Position

The Day Porter & Site Monitor keeps the school site safe, clean, and running smoothly across the full instructional day. This position serves as the School’s roving support presence: monitoring campus common areas, responding to staff requests for assistance, providing scheduled break relief so Aides can take their meal and rest periods, and maintaining site readiness through daily custodial and facilities support. This is a non-instructional position. The Day Porter & Site Monitor supervises and supports students in shared and transitional spaces but does not implement individualized instructional, behavioral, or therapeutic programming and does not serve as a substitute for an assigned Aide beyond scheduled break coverage.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
DOJ Live Scan
Current tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment or clearance in accordance with California Education Code requirements.
Completion of mandated reporter training, and completion of CPR, First Aid, and School-approved behavioral intervention training within the timeframe established by the School.
One (1) or more years of experience in custodial, facilities, site supervision, security, or a comparable role; experience in a school or youth-serving setting is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, with the ability to hold a fixed coverage schedule.
Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requests, and shift quickly between tasks.
Ability to interact respectfully and patiently with autistic and neurodivergent students, including students who are dysregulated.
Comfort using mobile devices and messaging platforms for real-time communication.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Walk approximately 3 to 5 miles over the course of a school day
Stand and move for at least 75% of the workday
Run a short distance (e.g., across a classroom or outdoor area) when a student safety situation requires it
Climb stairs and use a step stool or ladder
Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead repeatedly throughout the day
Rise quickly from a seated, kneeling, or floor position
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Push, pull, and maneuver carts, furniture, equipment, and waste containers
Perform repetitive motions such as wiping, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Routine exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants, with required personal protective equipment provided
Potential exposure to bodily fluids, with training and personal protective equipment provided in accordance with the School’s exposure control procedures
Maintain visual supervision of students across a room or yard with line of sight at all times
Hear well enough to monitor the environment, respond to calls for help, and monitor a mobile device
Communicate clearly in spoken and written English
Maintain professional composure and emotional regulation when subjected to verbal hostility, including profanity, slurs, derogatory or personal remarks, and other provocative language
Maintain composure and self-regulation during stressful, unpredictable, or confrontational situations

Responsibilities

Maintain an active, visible presence across campus common areas, including hallways, restrooms, courtyards, playgrounds, lunch areas, and drop-off and pick-up zones.
Monitor arrival, dismissal, transition, and lunch periods to support safe and orderly student movement.
Support student supervision and safety in shared spaces, responding to elopement, wandering, or safety concerns and summoning appropriate staff support.
Monitor exterior doors, gates, and visitor check-in to support site security, and confirm the campus is secured at the close of the day.
Participate in and support emergency drills, evacuation procedures, and site safety protocols.
Maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA, mandated reporter requirements, and School policies.
Monitor the School’s Signal channels throughout the school day and respond promptly to staff requests for support.
Serve as a rapid second set of hands for classrooms and directors: retrieving supplies, covering a doorway, escorting a student, or staging materials.
Log support requests, response times, and recurring needs, and report patterns to the supervisor so staffing and coverage gaps can be addressed.
Communicate emerging site, safety, or facilities concerns to administration in real time.
Provide scheduled classroom coverage so that Aides can take uninterrupted, duty-free meal and rest periods in accordance with California law and School policy.
Follow the published break rotation schedule and arrive on time for each assigned coverage window, recognizing that break timing is a legal obligation of the School.
Ensure students remain appropriately supervised during coverage handoffs and receive a brief handoff from the departing Aide.
Immediately report to the supervisor, on the same day, any break that is missed, shortened, delayed, or interrupted.
Take assigned meal and rest periods in accordance with the coverage plan established for this position.
Perform routine daytime cleaning of restrooms, classrooms, common areas, and dining spaces, including restocking supplies and removing trash and recycling.
Respond to spills, accidents, and cleanup needs during the school day, including bodily fluids, using assigned personal protective equipment and following the School’s exposure control procedures.
Set up and break down spaces for meals, assemblies, meetings, and school events.
Handle, store, and label cleaning chemicals in accordance with product labels, Safety Data Sheets, and the School’s hazard communication program.
Complete minor maintenance tasks and promptly report facilities, equipment, or safety issues requiring vendor or contractor attention.
Maintain custodial supply inventory and notify the supervisor when reordering is needed.
