This management position is responsible for all sterile processing operations at Geisinger Community Medical Center. The role involves assisting in the planning, directing, and coordinating of activities related to the procurement, processing, inventory management, receiving, storage, and distribution of supplies to support effective patient care. The manager will perform supervisory, administrative, and training functions for sterile processing and inventory staff, utilize online purchasing requests, maintain database files, and produce reports from OR and Supply Chain inventory systems. This role also manages the coordination of annual year-end inventory processes within the Operating Room, investigates and proposes new technology and approaches to meet business objectives, and develops/implements Surgical Suite inventory processes, workflows, and business systems evaluation. The position optimizes strategic functions between technology and process engineering, facilitates the development of appropriate policies and procedures, and performs HR functions including job descriptions, performance evaluations, recruitment, selection, hiring, promotion, and discipline. Staff education to ensure competency is provided, along with the development of key performance indicators and real-time metrics to align operational behavior with strategic objectives. Benchmarking analysis and reports supporting CSS, surgical inventory, and related processes are provided, and assistance is given to surgical suite staff in identifying cost-saving opportunities. The role involves critical analysis of methods and recommendations for improvement, applying process improvement techniques, and leading team planning for CSS and inventory applications, including change management. Assistance is provided to the Surgical Suite in reducing overall supply costs through best practices in inventory management, utilization, and selection of products, equipment, and services. Supply expense and utilization trends are reviewed and analyzed, working with Geisinger managers and medical staff to support clinical and financial goals. Interaction with physicians and clinicians is key to coordinate and integrate cost and quality management programs into departmental services. Work is typically performed in an office environment.
