About The Position

Provides Operational Oversight and Management to the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) department. Responsible for the SPS departmental budget at each acute care location. Key stakeholder in fostering synergies between the SPS analysts, educators, site managers and customers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • 10+ years of experience in sterile processing
  • 5+ years of experience in management role
  • SPS Certification required
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 CEUs per year
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Knowledge of AAMI/JCAHO/AORN regulations
  • Understanding of Lean management processes in order to utilize data to drive process improvement and create standard

Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing capital and operating budgets for Surgical Services Departments based on history, projections, and anticipated changes in volume and/or practice.
  • Continuously monitors capital expenditures and operating budget, performing monthly variance reporting for areas of responsibility.
  • Assists Clinical Directors with variance reporting as needed.
  • Assists in the preparation of capital equipment recommendations and generates service request.
  • Responsible to help develop and accomplish the strategic plan and objectives.
  • Plans, directs, problem solves, and performs quality measurements of all assigned tasks.
  • Ensures that the department is following all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
  • Leads initiatives resulting in enhanced physician, patient and associate satisfaction and improved quality.
  • Actively works to develop and maintain good working relationships with medical staff, other leadership within the organization.
  • Creates an environment with a focus on infection prevention and patient safety.
  • Responsible for oversight and validation of how the department works with the System Perioperative Services, OR Managers, Physicians, OR Committees and others to address areas of concern within financially and clinically driven performance reports.
  • Responsible for the accurate maintenance of the Hospital information system as it relates to the surgical services supply chain and the Sterile Processing department.
  • Collaborates with management and other departments to ensure access to required/preferred equipment and materials and acts as liaison to facilitate the communication of information between staff members and departments.
  • Assists with departmental operations including staffing, planning, organizing, directing, financial analysis and cost management, utilization, charge capture/revenue, and computerized systems.
  • Manages the purchase of supplies and materials in accordance with Hospital purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Manages the instrument utilization, processing, and repair processes.
  • Leads and motivates employees to peak team performance by serving as a role model, promoting effective communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
  • The manager shapes and interprets the philosophy and vision of the hospital as it relates to short and long term planning, program and staff development, resource and budget management, staffing, quality assurance, and healthcare system utilization and management.
