About The Position

GFT is seeking a Site Inspector to join their Transportation Team. This position will be based in Mississauga and Timmons, ON. This role is hourly, on-call. Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation construction inspection in the Toronto, ON/GTA area.
  • OACETT Designation (C.E.T, C.Tech, A.Sc.T).

Nice To Haves

  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle in good working order.
  • Demonstrated experience on construction sites including project examples, with a focus on municipal infrastructure projects – roadways and bridges.
  • Experience in all aspects of inspections and strong understanding of health and safety codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility to travel to construction sites for extended periods and work outside of normal business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting directly to construction sites to observe and document contractor’s work conforms to contract requirements.
  • Maintaining project files/documentation.
  • Compiling and calculating quantities of work performed to be used in calculating monthly contractor payments.
  • Interacting with clients on a regular basis.
  • Checking the contractor’s line and grade as work progresses and documenting these checks in the diary.
  • Carrying out site inspections to verify that the construction works and installation of equipment are in accordance with the contract document.
  • Serving as the field point of contact for the client and all project stakeholders.
  • Conducting reviews and verifications of construction schedules, including baseline and updates, in coordination with the client.
  • Performing inspections and overseeing field testing.
  • Preparing daily reports.
  • Maintaining construction contract records.
  • Assisting in the preparation and negotiation of construction change orders.
  • Occasionally chairing project progress meetings and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Ensuring site safety, permit compliance, and coordination with adjacent projects.
  • Monitoring contractor compliance with safety and health plans as well as quality assurance requirements.
  • Working with the contractor to minimize disruptions to the public.
  • Logging and coordinating with designer and contract administrator to respond to contractor submittments, RFIs, and shop drawings.
  • Preparing punch lists with the owner upon project completion.
  • Ensuring that all reports for field testing, including manufacturers reports, are provided prior to the commissioning of the works.
  • Investigating, reporting and advising on unforeseen circumstances that arise during construction such as differing underground soil conditions, claims from the contractor, etc.
  • Reviewing contractor’s request for payments as to progress, quantities of work completed and materials delivered to the site and advising on validity prior to issuing payment certificates.
  • Verifying “final” shop drawings are submitted by the contractor.
  • Maintaining a “marked-up” set of drawings to show “as-built” works.
