About The Position

Expanded learning programs are structured educational opportunities that occur outside the traditional school day, combining academic support, enrichment activities, and skill-building to enhance students’ overall learning and development. The Expanded Learning Coordinator is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing high-quality, developmentally appropriate afterschool and summer learning programs for school-age youth. This position aligns with the National Afterschool Association (NAA) Core Knowledge & Competencies and plays a critical role in supporting student success, positive youth development, and collaborative partnerships with schools, families, and communities.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or higher; alternatively, completion of at least 48 college units, or a passing score on the Instructional Aide Exam
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB test clearance
  • 3 years of experience in a K-12 setting, or other youth lead program
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and support a team of adults
  • Proficiency in technology & computer applications (Word, email, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Available full-time, Monday through Friday
  • Willing to commit to a full academic school year
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and be capable of standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with students and families
  • Basic English reading proficiency to support students' academic development, enrichment offerings, and school-day alignment
  • Must have working knowledge of DEI concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that supports the developmental, cognitive, social-emotional, and physical needs of youth
  • Build positive relationships with students and encourage youth voice and leadership
  • Resolve conflict and guide student behavior restoratively
  • Design and deliver project-based, culturally responsive, and enrichment-focused curriculum aligned with school-day learning and youth interests
  • Implement academic support, SEL, and enrichment activities that reflect best practices in youth development
  • Track student participation, progress, and engagement to inform planning and ensure continuous improvement
  • Support individual learning goals and behavior strategies in coordination with school-day educators.
  • Develop program schedules, lesson plans, and materials to meet program goals and compliance standards.
  • Coordinate logistics, including space usage, supplies, and daily operations
  • Engage in a data-driven program quality improvement process; uses assessment and reflection data to inform academic instruction, literacy activities, and small group
  • Collaborate with school site stakeholders to develop programs that support student development and academic success
  • Cultivate strong relationships with school staff, families, and community partners to support program outcomes.
  • Facilitate family engagement events and communicate regularly with caregivers
  • Ensure that program practices meet or exceed health and safety standards
  • Uphold policies related to child supervision, emergency preparedness, and mandated reporting
  • Ensure safety standards, policies, and procedures are being met at all times
  • Serve as a role model for staff and youth; uphold high ethical and professional standards
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of integrity
  • Participate in ongoing professional development aligned with the NAA competencies.
  • Provide on the ground visibility, which may include, but is not limited to, daily observations, side-by-side modeling, and coaching.
  • Provide professional development, monthly meetings, and 1:1 supervision check-ins for all staff.
  • Participate in all meetings, workshops, and activities organized by BACR and District partners
  • Supervise program staff, volunteers, and activity leaders, providing guidance, support, coaching, and feedback.
  • Manage attendance records, reporting requirements, and assist with grant compliance as needed.
  • Submit all required documentation on a timely basis, including program reports, as applicable.
  • Submit monthly student attendance and student snack reports on a timely basis
  • Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the program at the school site, including: facilities management, attendance tracking and reporting, state, district, agency school requirements, grant compliance, supervision, and safety of the program, and program design
  • Effectively manage student recruitment, enrollment, scheduling, and registration procedures to meet program attendance goals
  • Carry out People and Culture procedures and practices for staff recruitment, screening, hiring, and termination, as well as performance evaluations, performance discussion documentation, and performance improvement plans.
  • Track and monitor payroll by deadline

  • Pay rate: $32.00- $33.00 an hour, based on regional grant funding and experience
