About Young Community Developers Established in 1973, YCD is a nonprofit organization that serves residents of all ages living in the most historically underserved communities of San Francisco. YCD takes a holistic approach via a delivery eco-system of services designed to empower residents in achieving economic mobility, in turn building and sustaining a positive community by providing them with education opportunities, workforce development training, and social services. YCD’s philosophy is that every individual should have the right to sustainable and generational economic mobility, aiming to break the cycle of poverty. Each year YCD provides around 1,200 community members with employment and training services through their programs and partnerships. POSITION SUMMARY The role of the Summer Bridge Site Coordinator is designed to assist with the planning and execution of the Summer Bridge Program. Summer Bridge is designed to support rising 9th-grade students with their transition to high school. Under the Policy Direction of the Board of Directors and the supervision of the Coordinator and Assistant Program Coordinator, the site coordinator will be instrumental in overseeing Summer Bridge at a selected school site. The Site Coordinator will supervise the academic coaching staff; participate in and facilitate professional development training, input and manage data, coordinate guest speakers, coordinate field trips, maintain attendance and complete a written report of the summer session. This is a TEMPORARY Position beginning June 8th - July 24th

Requirements

  • Must have experience overseeing summer camp or youth program.
  • Must be able to coach and support summer staff.
  • Demonstrates experience leading and teaching groups of students with the ability to engage and inspire youth.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Logical problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to set clear goals and follow through with flexible and creative problem-solving tools
  • Experience interacting with diverse communities and the ability to integrate into an existing school community
  • Knowledge of computer and internet-based programs (ex. canva or similar) for use in communication and program report
  • Must pass and submit to the background check
  • Access to reliable transportation (public transportation or personal transport) to/from the assigned school
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Development, Psychology, Nonprofit Management, or related field preferred.
  • At least (1) year of management and supervisory experience and demonstrated experience overseeing program design, development, implementation, and operations.
  • Understanding of SF culture and history.
  • Experience working in collaboration with other community and government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a creative and collaborative approach to work performance and strives to bring a problem-solving mindset to all tasks.
  • Experience working with youth and a strong understanding of youth development.
  • Demonstrates professional, reliable, and compassionate work skills.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to travel regularly to the school site.
  • Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature demeanor.
  • Continuous commitment to improve occupational knowledge
  • Demonstrate competency using Microsoft Office Suite and other technology platforms.
  • Able to lift or move at least 25lbs.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability and willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele from various professional and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written communication, patience, diplomacy, and a high level of customer service skills.
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve and be resourceful.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the academic coaches’ summer schedule.
  • Work with School Site Administration and Faculty to ensure that academic tutorial services are met in accordance with school site needs.
  • Develop a recruitment and outreach plan for the program.
  • Support staff with creation and facilitation of 1+ hour workshops.
  • Coordinate individual student tutorial plans with summer school teachers.
  • Manage student incentives.
  • Monitor and track student progress and attendance.
  • Support field trip Coordination and guests.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with school site administration, faculty, YCD, and senior management.
  • Attend all pre-training and training sessions
  • Be punctual for all scheduled summer school days.
  • Maintain distribution and inventory of supplies.
  • Coordinate a career day, job fair, or summer learning event. (Tentative & Assistance can be provided)
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
