About The Position

The Site Athletic Director promotes the educational philosophy and objectives of the District and provides leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible program for student-athletes within the District’s philosophy and objectives. This role involves directing the coaching staff, representing the school athletic program, and assisting with communication and planning of athletic events. The Site Athletic Director is responsible for coordinating athletic event set up, including planning, implementing, and scheduling team activities, tryouts, practices, and end-of-season tournaments. They also coordinate with school site staff regarding schedule changes, ensure administrator presence at athletic events, stay updated on rules and District requirements, and assist in the recruitment of athletic coaches. Additionally, the role includes inventorying, issuing, and receiving athletic equipment, conducting athletic parent meetings, and assisting with practice and game facilitation, as well as end-of-season tournaments. The Site Athletic Director performs other duties as assigned by the District Athletic Director and/or the site Principal.

Requirements

  • Must be a current BESD Exempt Instructional Employee (Certified Teacher/Classified Instructor).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid AZ Department of Education Certificate at all times.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid AZ Driver’s License at all times.
  • Must be trained in and possess valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid clearance.
  • Must provide all required certifications prior to the beginning of the designated sports season and the assumption of coaching duties.
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to work effectively with groups and individuals.
  • Demonstrate skills in organization and ability to apply this knowledge to a variety of situations.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with parent groups, administrators, staff and students.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes the educational philosophy and objectives of the District and provides leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible program for student-athletes.
  • Directs the coaching staff.
  • Represents the school athletic program.
  • Assists with communication and planning of athletic events.
  • Coordinates athletic event set up: planning, implementing and scheduling team activities, tryouts(with rubric), practices, and end of season tournaments.
  • Coordinates with school site staff regarding any changes to schedules.
  • Ensures that there is an administrator present at every athletic event where the school is designated as the HOME team, whether it is at the home campus or at another campus.
  • Keeps abreast of rules and District requirements.
  • Assists in the recruitment of athletic coaches.
  • Inventories, issues, and receives athletic equipment to/from Coaches.
  • Conducts athletic parent meetings with coaches to review eligibility, athletic code, team rules, requirements, and risk factors for all athletes.
  • Assists with practice facilitation when needed.
  • Assists with game facilitation when needed.
  • Assists with the end of season tournament.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the District Athletic Director and/or the site Principal.
