About The Position

Matrix Plastic Products is a quality-driven custom manufacturer of ultra-precise plastic components and subassemblies for medical devices and other mission-critical applications. Our specialties are plastic injection molding, mold making, and assembly. Founded in 1978, we are looking for an experienced Sinker EDM Operator to help run projects through our EDM department. The Sinker EDM Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Sinker EDM equipment to manufacture, modify, and repair precision components used in plastic injection molds. This position works closely with mold makers, CNC machinists, engineering, and quality personnel to produce high-quality tooling that meets customer specifications and production schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in machining, mold making, or manufacturing preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of sinker EDM experience in a mold making or precision machining environment preferred.
  • Experience with plastic injection mold construction and repair strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of EDM machining principles, electrode design, and precision tooling.
  • Experience machining hardened tool steels and using graphite and copper electrodes.
  • Familiarity with CAM software such as NX, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • CNC machining is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor sinker EDM machines to manufacture precision mold components.
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, GD&T, and work instructions.
  • Install, align, and qualify electrodes and workpieces.
  • Create, edit, or optimize EDM programs using machine controls and/or CAM software.
  • Verify dimensions and surface finishes using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gages, and other advanced measurement equipment when applicable.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain proper machine cleanliness.
  • Troubleshoot machining and process issues to ensure dimensional accuracy and efficient production.
  • Collaborate with mold makers during new mold builds, mold repairs, engineering changes, and production tooling support.
  • Document machining parameters, inspection results, and completed work accurately.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
