About The Position

As part of the Technical Services department within CAE’s Civil Training and Services division, the Simulator Technician will perform all preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on several CAE and non-CAE flight simulators and associated devices at the CAE Montreal Training Center.

Requirements

  • DEC in Electronic, Computer Science, Aircraft Maintenance, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing work schedules.
  • Ability to read drawings and system diagrams (electrical and electro-mechanical drawings and design documents).
  • Ability to operate control devices (oscilloscope, multimeter, signal generator, logic analyzer, etc.) and familiarity with electronic testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital theory and basic electronic theory, principles.
  • Computer knowledge (personal computers or mainframe/computer architecture), including Windows, Unix, C, C++, and scripting languages.
  • Proficiency in soldering and repairing printed circuit boards.
  • Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Related experience in software and electronic modification/manipulation.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in French and English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CAE software and applications (CAELIB, STARTEAM, visual systems, SIM XXI architecture).
  • Understanding of hardware/software interactions as they relate to aviation simulation.
  • Aeronautical knowledge, including avionics, flight dynamics, aircraft systems, and simulated systems experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine technical tasks on-site, externally, or in the laboratory.
  • Undergo training on the various stages of technical work to be performed in the laboratory, office, factory, and externally.
  • Learn and perform preventive maintenance tasks on simulators and related simulation systems.
  • Assist in diagnosing and correcting problems on simulators and related simulation systems.
  • Use the maintenance management system to log and track maintenance activities.
  • Follow all specified training activities.
  • Perform pre- and post-flight simulations on designated simulators.
  • Perform basic visual alignments.
  • Execute automatic certification tests.
  • Provide assistance for hardware refurbishments and modifications.
  • Become familiar with and comply with the rules applicable to CAE's quality management system.
  • Offer support to customer service and respond to customer needs in a timely manner.
  • Perform maintenance tasks to maintain simulators according to requirements.
  • Execute logistical tasks, including receiving parts, repairs, as well as testing and validations.
  • Execute administrative tasks, as needed.
  • Perform tasks to support the technical services group, as needed.
  • Provide real-time phone support to address technical issues on training center flight simulators.
  • Prepare the simulator for customer training, including performing pre-flight tests.
  • Execute recurring scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Perform aircraft validation tests (QTG) and create/restore system/computer disk backups.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex simulator deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Identify and replace defective simulator components.
  • Validate snag fixes directly on the simulator device.
  • Maintain and document configuration control of both software and hardware elements.
  • Work within C/Unix and Windows environments to step through code modules, identify root causes, and propose strong leads and hypotheses for resolution.
  • Read and interpret electrical and electro-mechanical drawings and design documents.
  • Define technical problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Apply aircraft/systems knowledge to execute hands-on fixes on Full Flight Simulators.
  • Log all work regularly, objectively, and formally in a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Update technical documentation and procedures when required.
  • Participate in technical training courses and on-the-job learning.
  • Lead and execute projects to improve and ensure smooth operations of the training center.
