About The Position

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Simulation Operations & Lab Technician. The Simulation Operations & Lab Technician provides comprehensive technical and operational support for the School of Health Sciences clinical simulation suites and skills labs. This role is responsible for the day-to-day readiness of healthcare training environments, ensuring that all simulation equipment, manikins, and computer hardware/software are functional and optimized for student learning. The technician plays a vital role in facilitating realistic clinical scenarios that enhance student decision-making in a safe, controlled environment.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in healthcare, biomedical technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • One to two years of related experience in healthcare simulation-based technology or an allied health profession (e.g., EMT, CNA, LPN).
  • Proficiency with MS 365, AV systems, and networked computer equipment.
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA, FERPA, and ADA guidelines regarding patient health records and student privacy.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, simulation technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific simulation software (examples might include Gaumard, Leardal LLEAP, CAE LearningSpace).
  • Familiarity with Google services, in addition to MS 365.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, test, and run simulation scenarios in collaboration with faculty, including trial runs to identify technical adjustments.
  • Prepare, sanitize, and maintain high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, and medical equipment such as IV pumps, ventilators, and defibrillators.
  • Apply simulated injuries (moulage) to manikins and standardized patients to enhance realism.
  • Learn and operate and troubleshoot complex AV recording systems, microphones, and simulation management software.
  • Facilitate training and support for faculty and students during sim and open lab.
  • Organize and restock medical supplies; rearrange simulation bays to optimize workflow and maintain "hospital-ready" environments.
  • Maintain detailed inventory records and coordinate with the Director of Nursing to order and restock supplies.
  • Ensure all lab activities comply with university policies and governmental safety regulations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for equipment manufacturers regarding service contracts, warranties, calibration requirements and repairs.
  • Assist students and faculty with the proper use of equipment and demonstrate lab procedures.
  • Assist with tours, community outreach, and admission/recruiting initiatives such as summer camps and open house events.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and digital manuals for the simulation center.
  • May supervise student workers
