About The Position

The Simulation Center Technician will be responsible for the hands-on management of a medical simulation training center including all medical simulation equipment, audiovisual systems, and computer networks that comprise this state-of-the-art medical simulation facility (Clinical Simulation (CSC) and Surgical Skills Centers (SSC)). These responsibilities include: 1) the operation and maintenance of all medical simulation equipment, e.g. robotic simulators and peripheral equipment; 2) the operation and maintenance of all audiovisual systems within the facility and remote sites; 3) the operation and maintenance of a Windows based network environment including network hardware such as servers, workstations, peripherals, cable infrastructure and backup systems, as well as software such as specialized simulation training software and standard office productivity software; 4) working with administration in technical design, policy, planning, and support; and 5) assisting with technical training programs and conducting training of Centers' staff and participants in the use of all technical equipment. The Simulation Center Technician must have the ability to solve problems by formulating solutions. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role. Responsibilities in the above technical areas of medical simulation equipment, audiovisual systems, and computer networks include: Responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance and troubleshooting of Center Simulation. AV and network systems including setups and breakdowns of human patient simulator equipment, partial task trainers, medical equipment, and specialized simulation training software during clinical training and assessment programs offered for participants within the institution and outside the institution. This includes: Assisting with preparation for simulation activities (Standardized Patient and Manikin). Building of projects, cases, and case/project revisions as necessary and enters case materials into the simulation software system. Assisting CSC staff with the technical equipment, supplies, medical equipment, and/or the preparation of clipboards, fact sheets, participant flows and other equipment needed for learning sessions. Performs routine checks on the system prior to clinical learning activities. Management of system data/videos and post activity reports. Assist in providing access and authorization to CSC software system for CSC Staff and faculty. Send out links to students for video viewing as directed by faculty. Prepare and distributes requested reports after clinical learning activity and sends it to the appropriate faculty. Participation with Center administration in the technical system design, policy, planning, and support. Participation with Center administration in the development of technical training programs and in conduction training of Center staff and faculty in the use of all Center technical systems. Assist in the maintenance of the CSC's simulation equipment. This includes assisting in the maintenance of records related to maintenance, repair, and upgrade. Assist in the maintenance of CSC equipment inventory and property control procedures including maintenance of technical equipment purchases, contracts, and warranty records. This also includes inventory and maintenance of simulation supplies. Serve as the primary point of contact for diagnoses and troubleshooting of all Center simulation manikin and surgical simulation systems as well as partial task training equipment. Keep the CSC's Technical Specialist informed as needed so appropriate vendors can be contacted to perform technical and warranty services including installations, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to Center medical simulation, surgical simulation, and partial task training equipment. Interacts with vendors as necessary to ensure work is completed. Other duties or projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a combination of healthcare experience or experience in the operation and maintenance of audio/visual systems and computer networks totaling four (4) years full-time may be considered
  • Experience in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computer hardware and software
  • Ability to solve problems by formulating solutions
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biomedical technology field, computer science or health related field
  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, or PALS
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of medical simulation equipment/medical simulation lab environment
  • Experience in video production (filming, editing, and transcoding)
  • Experience in an academic/training environment and/or healthcare related experience
