About The Position

VUSN supports the development of innovative academic educational programs within the school which align strategically with other Vanderbilt University initiatives to address national priorities to promote, protect, educate students and play a vital role in developing clinicians who will provide access to health care for people everywhere. This position is responsible for the setup, execution, and takedown of simulations, including preparing rooms, equipment, supplies, and moulage, testing equipment, operating sessions, and resetting rooms. It also involves programming and operating patient simulators, audio/visual systems, and software, acting as the voice for mannequins, and troubleshooting technical issues. The role includes managing equipment maintenance, tracking warranty documentation, optimizing supply utilization, stocking inventory, and conducting lab tours and demonstrations.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree is required.
  • Two years of experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency utilizing computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe), laptop computers and tablets is required.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Certification as a Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred.
  • Experience with biomedical technology and biomedical equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and human physiology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews Simulation Center calendar of events and prepares accordingly.
  • Ensure proper rooms, equipment (simulators, task trainers, etc.), supplies, and moulage are prepared and ready on time for simulations, skills and OSCEs.
  • Tests simulation and OSCE equipment and supplies to ensure proper functioning.
  • Works with VUIT staff to ensure SimCapture is ready and functions and records (when applicable).
  • Operates sessions.
  • Creates and maintains a safe lab environment, and functions with an awareness of safety at all times.
  • Assure proper utilization of equipment, supplies, services and materials in a cost-effective manner.
  • Resets the room for the next simulation in a timely manner.
  • Operates and programs patient simulators, audio/visual equipment and computer software for simulations.
  • Acts as the voice for mannequins and others in the simulation using a script.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues and assists faculty during simulations.
  • Receives regular training on the use and upkeep of all technology in the Simulation Center.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and repair schedules with the proper vendor in collaboration with the Program Manager, ensuring all resources are optional.
  • In collaboration with the Program Manager, maintains warranty documentation and tracks equipment lifespan.
  • Selects appropriate supplies for each simulation, skills or OSCE and disposes of them properly after the experience.
  • Tracks and optimizes supply utilization, ensuring proper inventory levels in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Stocks and inventories supplies and equipment as shipments arrive.
  • Conducts lab tours and demonstrations for faculty, students, and external visitors.
  • Performs additional duties as necessary.
