The IWK Simulation Program is administered through the Nursing and Professional Practice Portfolio. Simulation-based education is provided to health professionals and interprofessional teams throughout the IWK as well as to medical and health professions students in the pediatric, neonatal, and obstetrical specialties. Simulation-based education is primarily delivered in either the IWK Simulation Centre or in-situ clinical sites; however, the program may coordinate off-site simulation sessions and consult on simulation activities with internal and external partners. The primary focus of the program is to support excellence in clinical practice by providing simulated clinical experiences for IWK medical and health professions staff and students. The IWK program also works with partners such as Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health, Nova Scotia Health, and others to deliver pediatric/neonatal/obstetrical simulation-based education. The IWK simulation program is one of four programs within the Halifax-based Sim Ed Collaborative. The Simulation Consultant is the first point of contact for simulation-based learning in IWK Health. They are a skilled adult educator with specific mastery of all aspects of simulation-based learning. The Simulation Consultant provides clinical, operational, and academic leadership related to simulation-based program and curriculum development, oversight of the execution of simulation activities, and evaluation of simulation and program objectives. They have expertise in interprofessional simulation-based learning as well as the use of simulation in emergency response training, patient safety, and environmental development.
