Simulation and Lab Coordinator

OLIVET COLLEGE•Olivet, MI
•$45,000 - $55,000•Onsite

About The Position

The University of Olivet Nursing Program seeks a full-time Simulation and Lab Coordinator to operate the nursing skills and simulation laboratories and to coordinate clinical placements for the Pre-Licensure BSN program. The program admits a new cohort each semester, with multiple cohorts running concurrent skills lab, simulation, and clinical rotations at any given time. This position is central to delivering that instruction: the coordinator prepares and runs simulation scenarios, maintains the lab and its equipment, and secures and manages clinical placements across partner facilities. A nursing degree or clinical license is not required. This is an operational and technical role. The coordinator works alongside nursing faculty, who retain responsibility for instruction, clinical content, and student evaluation. We welcome applicants from simulation operations, allied health, emergency medical services, instructional technology, audiovisual production, healthcare administration, and similar backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Related fields include health sciences, allied health, emergency medical services, healthcare administration, education, instructional technology, information technology, media or audiovisual production, biology, or a comparable discipline.
  • Two or more years of experience in a healthcare, simulation, laboratory, education, or technical operations setting.
  • Demonstrated aptitude with technical equipment, software configuration, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent schedules, deadlines, and compliance records with accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and external facility partners, and to maintain confidentiality of student records under FERPA.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and manikins (up to [50] lbs) and to stand for extended periods during lab sessions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating healthcare simulation manikins and simulation management or AV capture software.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS), or willingness to pursue certification with institutional support.
  • A current or prior healthcare credential such as paramedic, EMT, respiratory therapist, surgical technologist, medical assistant, LPN, or CNA.
  • Prior experience in higher education, a hospital education department, or clinical placement coordination.
  • Audiovisual, IT support, or media production experience.
  • Familiarity with CCNE accreditation, the AACN Essentials, and clinical compliance tracking systems.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, operate, and tear down high- and low-fidelity manikins for simulation sessions; troubleshoot equipment and coordinate manufacturer service and warranty repairs.
  • Build out simulation scenarios in the manikin software from clinical content provided by faculty, including physiologic states, scenario branching, moulage, props, medications, and environmental setup.
  • Operate the simulation audiovisual and recording system, including camera control, session capture, annotation, and retrieval of recordings for debriefing and faculty review.
  • Serve as simulation operator during live sessions, running the manikin and adjusting scenario parameters at faculty direction; voice the patient when the scenario calls for it.
  • Prepare, stock, and reset skills lab stations for skills training and competency testing days; support faculty during testing with setup, materials, timing, and station logistics.
  • Maintain lab inventory and supply ordering; track budgets, par levels, expiration dates, and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain lab safety, infection control, and sharps and hazardous materials protocols.
  • Manage lab scheduling and access, including open lab hours and student practice time.
  • Track and verify student clinical compliance requirements, including immunization records, background checks, drug screening, physicals, CPR certification, and facility-specific onboarding requirements.
  • Maintain accurate placement and compliance records for program and accreditation reporting.
  • Maintain documentation of simulation activities, clinical hours, and lab utilization to support CCNE accreditation reporting.
  • Support faculty in applying INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice to scenario setup, prebriefing logistics, and debriefing environments.
  • Support program events including open houses, skills days, and orientation.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the nursing program.
