About The Position

The Nursing Simulation Coordinator is a 12-month staff member that is responsible for coordinating simulation/laboratory activities, clinical placement operations, and student success initiatives, within both Practical and Associate Degree Nursing programs. This position supports compliance with National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) standards, North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) regulations, and North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) requirements. Responsibilities include managing clinical and simulation scheduling, coordinating student support activities, maintaining program records and data, facilitating communication with clinical partners and external agencies, and supporting continuous quality improvement efforts. The coordinator serves as a key operational resource to faculty, students, clinical agencies, and community partners. The coordinator will work collaboratively with the Director of Nursing Programs, the Coordinator for Health Programs Workforce Development, and the health sciences faculty to ensure safe and effective use of clinical facilities.

Requirements

Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning OR, Bachelor's degree in Nursing with completion of MSN degree within three years of employment.
Registered Nurse (RN) holding a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
At least two (2) calendar years of the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.
RN License.
Current CPR certification (AHA BLS for Healthcare providers).
Comprehensive knowledge of health programs concepts, theories, and practices with the ability to use in complex and/or difficult situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
Current trends in health programs education and administration
Curriculum and program development processes and techniques for Nursing programs
College educational philosophy, management, and administrative practices and procedures
North Carolina Board of Nursing standards as it relates to areas of responsibility
Adult learning theory, concepts, and teaching methodologies
Learning-centered values and student success initiatives
Principles, procedures and practices of data collection and analysis
Knowledge of and commitment to the role of the community college system
Develop consistent and timely formative and summative assessment measures to enhance learning
Clinical competency and professional standards of practice in health programs
Proficiency in technological systems as they apply to instructional, administrative, and workplace needs including PC’s, Macs, iPads, tablets, Chromebooks, and related software
Proficiency in planning work activities, schedules, priorities, and utilization of resources
Design learning opportunities that promote student life skills development while enhancing discipline learning
Develop and implement diverse teaching and learning strategies that accommodate the learning styles of students and that promote both acquisition and applications of knowledge and understanding
Advanced organizational and time management skills to coordinate the simulation lab and clinical scenarios
Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and health care representatives
Handle confidential information with absolute discretion
Ability to innovate and accommodate change

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).

Responsibilities

Develops and maintains student records of clinically required documentation, including but not limited to: health physicals, immunization records, PPD verification, orientations, CPR certifications
Collaborates with Director of Nursing Programs and facility coordinator(s) to schedule facility and/or other clinical orientations for students and faculty as needed
Collaborates with facility coordinator(s) to identify preceptors and coordinates preceptor assignments with lead course faculty
Collaborates with Director of Nursing Programs to develop clinical rotations based on faculty expertise, student needs and facility availability
Serves as a liaison between facility, clinical faculty, nursing programs, and students
Assists the Director of Nursing in recruiting part-time clinical faculty and preceptors
Assists the Director of Nursing in finding new clinical experiences for students
Collaborates with Director of Nursing Programs to establish, review, and research policies, standard practices, and procedures related to the simulation lab and clinical experience with a focus on continuous quality improvement
Researches, develops, updates, collaborates, and refines clinical scenarios for the nursing programs based on student and faculty needs and reflective of current practice standards
Ensures safety and maintains OSHA standards within the simulation lab; to include appropriate disposal of hazardous waste and sharps
Keeps current with safety standards and informs the Director of Nursing Programs and faculty of changes in standards
Monitors inventory and orders necessary supplies for the simulation lab, including performing the annual inventory
Ensures maintenance of simulation manikins and other equipment in the simulation lab; initiates repair and maintains appropriate warranties
Provides orientation and annual updates to instructors regarding the policies, procedures and use of the simulation lab
Collaborates with Director of Nursing Programs to coordinate the complementary blending of lab simulation, virtual simulation and clinical experience
Assists students and faculty in meeting course objectives through the utilization of the simulation lab in coordination with clinical experience
Oversees utilization of the simulation lab and equipment
Serves as a resource and support for Health Programs faculty in utilizing the simulation lab
Collaborates with faculty to provide student remediation
Utilizes and emphasizes instructional methods that promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, and clinical competency for real life application
Conducts tours for internal/external stakeholders
Coordinates and monitors student success, retention, progression, and completion initiatives
Tracks student engagement and academic support activities
Maintains records related to advising, remediation, tutoring, and student support services
Collaborates with faculty to identify and support at-risk students
Assists with orientation, onboarding, and program communication activities
Compiles and maintains student outcome data for accreditation, regulatory reporting, and program evaluation
Supports implementation of continuous quality improvement processes related to student achievement and program outcomes
Supports a lead instructor as assigned in a multi-campus environment
Maintains confidentiality of student information
Disseminates current information pertaining to services available to students throughout the college
Exercises stewardship of College facilities and materials
Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from the College, division, and program administrators
Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned; may be assigned duties as an academic advisor; work in the Academic Skills Center; and/or mentoring other employees
Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals
