About The Position

Located in Malta, New York, this internship will support the 300mm semiconductor technology development integration team at GlobalFoundries Fab 8. The Silicon Photonics Integration Engineering Intern will support process integration of silicon photonic devices from development and customer engagement through production, with a focus on quality, cost, delivery, reliability, and defect-free manufacturing.

Requirements

  • At least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Photonics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Microsystems, Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or other related engineering physical science disciplines through an accredited degree program during the time of internship.
  • Must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing.
  • English (Written & Verbal) Language Fluency
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

  • Prior related internship or co-op experience
  • Demonstrated prior leadership experience in the workplace, school projects, competitions, etc.
  • Strong interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support effective decision-making.
  • Project management skills, i.e., the ability to innovate and execute on solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning & organizational skills
  • Technical understanding of Silicon Photonics and semiconductor technology development.
  • Understanding of a balanced scorecard approach to developing, sustaining, and improving technologies with quality, cost, and delivery considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and qualification of silicon photonics process flows and process integrations to enable product requirements for performance, reliability, and defect-free manufacturing.
  • Help ensure methods and processes are in place to test devices and structures being developed.
  • Support development and implementation of methods and procedures for process control and inspection to ensure products are free of flaws and function as designed.
  • Analyze reports and defective products to determine trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support process freeze activities in preparation for manufacturing and help drive technology cost reduction and process convergence.
  • Support customer engagement through reporting issues, status, and milestones, and collaborate on other projects or assignments as needed.
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
