About The Position

This position operates small-medium equipment at a skilled level, including a sign truck, post driver, and post puller, for the installation of traffic control devices. The role requires supervising and training outside inmate details, performing manual labor in the maintenance and/or repair of county-maintained traffic control devices, assisting with asset input into an asset management program, and fabricating traffic control devices. Responsibilities include operating a sign truck for material transport, performing basic maintenance on equipment and devices, and using a computer/tablet for work tasks, email, and asset management. The position may also involve performing road closures and overseeing inmate work details, ensuring their safety and security. Regular and predictable attendance is required, along with performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
One year Equipment Operator I experience required.
A thorough understanding of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) to ensure signs meet national, federal, and state visibility and placement regulations.
Require or ability to obtain American Traffic Safety Services Associations (ATSSA) flagger or traffic control technician certifications.
Valid Class C Driver's License (CDL A or B preferred) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
POST Certification required.
Knowledge of geography of the County, including major roads and landmarks.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and safe operation of vehicles and equipment.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of, and skill in, operating various types of small-medium sized equipment.
Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
Ability to effectively use computer/tablet for work tasks/assignments, asset management, and email communications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, associates, supervisors, and the public.
Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.
Ability to lift objects of up to 100 pounds.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather or dry environments; extreme hot or cold temperatures; risk of bodily injury from biological hazards; working in high heights/high places or constricted spaces; and hot temperature devices including burners and flame torches.
Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from electrical hazards.
Incumbents occasionally must be able to work alone.
Incumbents regularly must be able to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.
