About The Position

The State Highway Administration (SHA) in the Office of Traffic and Safety is currently recruiting a Sign Technician I in Anne Arundel County. This is an entry-level position in the Sign Operations Section (SOS) of the Traffic Operations Division (TOD). The primary responsibilities are to assist with all aspects of sign fabrication, including the preparation of flat and extruded aluminum sign blanks for the application of text and silk-screened messages. The employee will learn the basics of sign fabrication, including applying messages to signs in accordance with state and federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and guidelines. This position will be trained to operate equipment such as hydraulic shears, silk screen tables, squeeze roller applicators, corner radius machine, and other hand and power tools. Employees in this position receive close supervision from the Sign Operations Supervisor or his/her designee. The incumbent will be required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements and may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day, as required for sign emergencies. This position may be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • None required experience.
  • Possess a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland with less than 4 points.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Candidates must satisfy the administration's training and certification program requirements to operate a forklift within six months of hire.

Responsibilities
