About The Position

Adelphi is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to provide direct and consultative interpreting services to students within a school setting in Gloucester, Virginia. This role involves facilitating communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and supporting their access to education as outlined in their IEPs.

Requirements

  • Current Virginia certification, credential, or other applicable qualification required to provide sign language interpretation services.
  • Appropriate education, training, and experience necessary to provide sign language interpretation services in an educational environment.

  • Experience providing sign language interpretation services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sign language interpretation services to students in accordance with their IEPs and assigned service requirements.
  • Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and teachers, staff, peers, administrators, and other members of the educational community.
  • Provide interpreting support during classroom instruction, educational activities, meetings, programs, and other school-related settings as assigned.
  • Support student access to instruction and educational services identified in the student’s IEP.
  • Participate in IEP, eligibility, multidisciplinary, and other meetings when requested and appropriate to the assignment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, special education personnel, families, deaf and hard of hearing service providers, and other members of the educational team.
  • Provide consultative support regarding communication access and student needs within the scope of assigned interpreting services.
  • Support the implementation of accommodations, assistive technology, communication supports, and specialized instructional supports identified by the educational team.
  • Maintain required service documentation.
  • Coordinate schedules and service delivery with designated administrators and case managers.
  • Participate in meetings either in person or virtually when requested by the School Division.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, HIPAA where applicable, and all other governing requirements.
  • Maintain required certifications, credentials, professional standards, and ethical conduct throughout the assignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
