About The Position

Rochester School District is seeking to fill up to three (3) Educational Assistant-Special Education positions. These positions involve working under the supervision of certificated teacher(s) to prepare individualized or small group classroom instruction, assist with remedial instruction, supervise students, perform clerical duties, and provide social/emotional and behavioral support. The role also includes teaching basic life and social skills, and performing all student care jobs, including hygiene, lifting, and personal care. The position description is subject to change based on the employer's needs. The work hours are 6.25 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, and 5.00 hours on Friday.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Seventy-two (72) college quarter credits and/or AA required and/or completion of ETS test.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions and to follow through efficiently and independently on assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist students in gaining social, academic and self-help skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate computers.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of certificated teacher(s), prepare individualized or small group classroom instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher with remedial instruction in reading and math for students.
  • Supervise students in the hallways and in the lunch room.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Assist with instruction as needed.
  • Maintain high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Conduct all work in a safe manner and comply with rules & regulations as specified by district policies and procedures.
  • Provide social/emotional and behavioral support for students.
  • Teach students basic life skills and social skills information.
  • Willingness to do all student care jobs including; student hygiene, lifting and personal care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
