About The Position

Sidewalk Laborers play an essential role in ensuring safe and accessible pathways for pedestrians during winter weather, making their work vital to community safety and mobility. This role involves applying salt, sand, or de-icing chemicals to surfaces to prevent the formation of ice or to melt existing ice, ensuring safer walking conditions. Clearing pathways to create clear paths wide enough for safe pedestrian passage is crucial, ensuring that entrances, exits, ramps, and other critical areas are accessible and safe to use. The job requires exercising caution and following safety protocols to prevent accidents while working in challenging weather conditions and using potentially hazardous equipment. Effective communication with supervisors and colleagues regarding the status of snow removal activities, potential hazards, and any issues encountered is necessary. Maintaining accurate records of work performed, including dates, times, areas cleared, and materials used with the First-Choice service verification app is also a key responsibility. The role demands physical stamina and endurance for prolonged shoveling and labor in cold weather conditions, as well as collaboration with other snow removal team members for efficient operations. Participation in training sessions related to safe snow operations, equipment handling, and emergency response protocols is required.
